Caliper cleaning question

I am painting my calipers so I removed them and they are filthy. I bought calipers cleaner spray, but it isn't doing the trick. Can I soak the caliper in hot water with Dawn dish soap? Anyone done this? I have removed the brake pads and would blow everything completely dry with an air hose.

Personally, no. Use a soft brush a bucket and lots of brake cleaner.

Have you tried a steel brush?

Got the calipers cleaned up. Used some steel wool and a brush. It was brutal....not recommended lol. Still working on the project.

2thDoctor, I will PM you the decal information in a couple of hours.

Hey CrockettHood,

What brand paint are you using and what year is your Panamera? I've only had the car for a year (2012)...I'm hoping it won't be as bad as people are saying about cleaning it up. I'm using G2 caliper paint that comes with brake cleaner...maybe I should go buy some more just to be safe b/c I won't be able to leave the house once my car is up on the stands.

I am using the VHT paint. I have heard great things about the G2. I only went with VHT because another forum member who has used both said they are comparable and I had easier access to the VHT. As far as the cleaning process goes...I am probably a little overboard when it comes to doing things "right" so maybe I cleaned them up more than needed, but it was not easy or fun at all. A lot of work to say the least. As previously stated I took the calipers completely off to make sure I cleaned them thoroughly and had the ability to paint all the areas. To me if all that break dust and deposits aren't removed the paint won't adhere and last. One caliper took a special star bit, the other another etc. I have a 2010 Panamera. I highly advise going to buy more cleaner before putting the car on stands. Good luck and check your PM box in a couple of hours. I'll get you the decal info.
