Hate these Pirellis...so, need Michelin Advice

Gents...even though only at 6500 miles, I just cannot stand these Pirelli P-Zero tires. The handling is subpar IMHO, and it seems like each week the "driving characteristics" of the car are different. So, decided to bite the bullet and pony up for a new set of rubber. As such, the question becomes whether to get the PS2's or the Pilot Super Sports.

I would appreciate any insight from people that have switched.

Thanks in advance!

I have PS2 in 21" size for summer tires and have been very happy with them - they don't wear great (15,000 if your lucky) but perform well. The bad news is I just learned that michelin has discontinued alot of the 21" sizes and I have no clue what I'll replace them with in the spring.

Can't go wrong with either one. I purchased the MPSS as soon as I got my car.

Thanks Boxster....I have the MPSS on wife's S550 (rolling on 20's as well), and that big ole car handles superbly. Its a shame that Porsche would even continue to contract with Pirelli, but of course, its likely all monetarily driven. They simply are not a good handling tire IMHO.

Oh well, likely will bite the bullet soon and switch 'em out.

Personally think the PSS is the superior tire.

I am a Michelin guy and swear by them. I have extensive time with the PS2's, PSS, Latitudes and Diamaris for the Cayennes etc...

I think the PSS is quieter and significantly better wearing and longer lasting tire. When I was choosing my rims for my Panamera, I made sure the PSS was available in my size or I would of made adjustments to the size and diameter of the rim to accomadate the PSS.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I am in the same market for tires. What is everyone getting out of the Super Sports miles wise? Can you pull 20K out of a pair?

Hijack away my man....however, if you are looking to get 20K out of a set of tires, why on earth did you buy a Panamera? Like wild stallions, these machines need to be driven!!! I'm stoked if I can get 8-10K miles, and loving every minute of burning 'em up...

15K is feasible if you're not too aggressive....mine look closer to"slicks" now and I realized after changing to winter tires that my road whine had been slowly increasing....I guess I'm getting new ones next summer Cole, you're having too much fun....but of course you're in the GTS, so you are set up to have fun!

Good feedback on the Michelins, thanks. 15-25k is a good average of what I see Panamera owners getting. If you can get into the Pilot Sport AS+, it will be a better wearing tire. But, it will give you that better wear at the expense of some dry performance compared to the PS2 or SS.

Please call me if I can help

Damon - is it possible that the "driving characteristics" of these Pirelli P-Zero's can fluctuate daily/weekly? To me, seems like the compound of the tire is not exactly stable. In other words, for a few days 43/43 seems to be an awesome DD driving pressure. Then, with no significant change in ambient temperature, or driving style, the same pressure results in the car not feeling as planted. Its almost like the tires themselves cannot hold a shape. Whenever I have had Michelin's on prior cars (my 997S, my e93 M3 convert, etc), the Michelin's just seemed "true" from mile one util I balded them out.

Maybe all in my head, but psychologically, I hate these P-zeros!!

Mich PSS is simply the best all-around performance tire IMHO

My 2012 PTT came with 20" Pirelli's - the fronts were done at 11k and corded at 13k miles, rear might of gone another 3k (to 16k). I switched to Michelin Pilot Sports and am very happy with them. They ride better and are much quieter than the PZero's.

I now have 29,xxx miles on my car and I am at 4-5/32nds in tread depth depending on the tire. I would expect to get another 3k-5k out of this set, so that would suggest 20k miles from this set. Most of my driving is back and forth from Orange County to San Diego. No track time and limited canyon carving - mostly just moving around miles. With a few track days and some focused canyon carving I would expect the total miles to reduce.

I am happy with the Pilot Sports for this car and use. I will go with the Pilot SS next time just to see how they compare.

No question the Michelin is a better tire for this car.

I just switched My pilot 2s to super sports. So far they are great. I got 17k on the ps 2. I changed them more due to cuts in the tire vs treadwear.
