Panamera GTS or M6 Gran Coupe?

Have owned base Panamera V6 for last two years. Thinking of trading it in on a new Panamera GTS or M6 Gran Coupe - but having trouble deciding which way to go after driving both. Have a Porsche 991S cabriolet for weekend use so thinking of venturing toward BMW for something different during the week, but afraid I will miss the Panamera because it feels so similar to the 991, which I also enjoy. Any suggestions from the collective wisdom of this group?

the gran coupe looks great, but if you actually need a back seat it's pretty worthless. Sounds like you have the 2 seater covered with the 911 already

+1...if you don't need backseats, get the gran coupe for diversity (plus, its a great looking ride) If you do need them, grab the GTS...its an amazing car. Best " all around car" I have ever owned. Just seems to do everything well, which is rare.

My thoughts exactly. I like both cars. However, there is absolutely no comparison if one desires a legitimate sedan. I've owned three 6 Series cars, including an M6 and, to me, the rear seating in the GC is just slightly better than the coupe. The comments I always receive from rear passengers in my 4S are that it's just like being in a front seat. I also prefer AWD, which is not available in BMW Mcars.

I was in the market shopping the same two cars and the Audi RS7. For me the M6 GC not having AWD was a deal breaker. Although its very unlikely I am going out in real bad weather that much horsepower has a huge tendency to have the backend leading the front end. I just sold my E90 M3 to get the GTS and WOW!!! I love the GTS. The GC is beautiful and has so many Tech features (a few I miss) but the sound of the GTS is unmatched.

I actually went through this very recently - I had a 2011 Panamera Turbo, and was waiting for the refreshed 2014....then I drove the 2014 Turbo and GTS a few times, and was bored with it - not much of a refresh (inside or out) so i went to look at everything else. Fell in love with the M6 Gran Coupe - what a car...technology inside the car is so far ahead of Porsche and the B&O sound system blows the Burmester I had in the PTT away. I have a 991 Carrera S cab as well, and a 2013 Cayenne Turbo. I really like the combo, and the change from car to car...might be worth checking out the GC. Really spectacular (unless you live in a winter climate and need AWD). The problem I found with comparing the Panameras to anything else is that at the price point, the M6 GC and the Panamera GTS line up, but really the Turbo is the right comparison, I feel. The GTS just doesn't perform like the GC whereas the turbo is a better comparison. However, the Turbo is so much more expensive than the GC or other comparable cars, especially once you build them like for like. My GC was $130k and it has all the options I need, and it is pretty loaded aside from ceramic brakes and competition package. My suggestion is to drive everything and see what excites you.

Looks like we have similar taste in cars. I have decided to go with the M6 GC. Curious about your thoughts on the competition package. Seems it is preferred on the M5 to make it more lively but not necessary on the M6 unless tracking the car. Do you regret not getting it, or enjoy it as is? I drove one with the competition package and it seems to have a slightly louder and deeper sound than the non-comp pkg (I did not get to drive car without the comp pkg, only heard running).

I did not opt for the competition package on the M6 GC...I got full leather (important, in my opinion), B&O, Driver's Assistance Package and Executive. Mine is Singapore Grey with black interior. Just love this car. If there is a car with the comp package, I would say get it, as it is not too much $$ but without it is not a big deal. Post some pics (maybe on Bimmerpost )

Interesting how people see cars so differently. I have owned even more BMW's than Porsche's including every M series car in the last 25 years with the exception of the current cars which I find no longer enjoyable. They lack what made the earlier cars so exciting to me great steering feel, wonderful driver feedback and a great chassis. To me BWM and Mercedes are no longer that different except in looks and available options.
