custom tune vs "box" tune on turbo

It seems that the tuners have what I would call "Box" tunes for turbos.

When a tune is developed how many cars is the tune optimized across?

How much is potentially left on the table to allow the tune to work with all cars in all environments, altitude, temp and humidity?

A ton remains your car vs another car can have major differences. Boxed tunes are not recommended especially for turbo.

Any of the companies who do tunes care to chime in on this topic.

I respectfully disagree. Realize the advancement of the Bosch Motronic ECUs in our cars. They adjust for weather compensation, monitor wideband air/fuel ratios, monitor timing advancement vs knock tables; all while making slight adjustments on its own. It's not like the tune is "locked" into a specific setting. There are adjustments done constantly by the "boxed" tune and ECU.

sadly there are only a handful of companies even offering tuning for the panamera chassis, most "claim" certain numbers however sadly not many show true dyno testing videos nor dyno graphs to back the numbers leaving us all to wonder what really is being made.

most for the turbo models are showing 80+ hp gains which is substantial and very noticeable when driving from a stand still punch to 60, and on the highway roll pulls done from 60mph-130mph.

there is a difference between "custom" tuning and just a standard bench flash as they call them now a days. custom tuning is specific to your car and the parts/upgrades done on your vehical and most shops and companies don't or cant do this thru the factory ecu, providing a another market called "stand alone engine management' such as motec, aem, haltec, pro efi in which a "custom" tuner can go in and change engine parameters using mechanical knowledge as well as computer knowledge to properly adjust settings such as timing, sensor control, fuel, air to fuel, mass air flow etc to your vehicles needs achieving even higher gains then standard "piggy back or bench flashing"

contact us for tuning solutions and stand alone ems system installs and tuning for all vehicles as well as best pricing on currently offered tunes!

I suspect that putting in a stand alone engine managment system is all but impossible.

Still waiting for one of the Pamamera or Cayenne box tuners to chime in. EVO.. GAIC.. Techart..???

Kind of strange none of them seem to reply to this in an open forum

Well, it's pretty certain that a custom tune is going to perform better than a generic one (assuming the tuner knows what they're doing). I know Cobb Tuning is working on an access port to do just that.

Would love to see more dynos before/after these all these tunes. Pretty much the only way of knowing whether the hype is true or not.

We're actually not allowed to post in public forums regarding our software with actual data because the moderators will delete it. All I can say is that we've tested our software back to back against a piggyback tuner with AWE Tuning and the results were heavily in our favor.

You're somewhat mistaken. If you're going to be adding a large number of custom hardware upgrades to the car (larger turbochargers, etc..), then you can take advantage of something more custom to suite the higher output potential. However, if you're doing a secondary cat delete, IPD plenum upgrade and an exhaust, you're not going to make anymore power on these cars than we do without doing some very irresponsible things to the DME in an effort to force the power up (such as reducing knock sensor sensitivity). These cars are heavily adaptive with a myriad of timing maps to choose from. We set the boost at a level (with stock primary cats) where the EGTs are in a safe, reliable range.
