Question in switching from Pirelli to Michelin

Gents- Had a quick question for anyone that switched from the OEM 20" Pirelli P-zeros to the Michelin PSS.

I have a '13 GTS that came with the Pirelli's. While I did not like them initially, after a few thousand miles they really settled in, and I found that at 40 cold front and rear, the handling was pretty good (or at least I just got used to it).

Anyway, once I burned through them at 10K miles, I switched to the Michelin PSS. Only had them a few hundred miles so far, and still getting used to them, but having a hard time dialing in a tire pressure that seems to be working, as the handling honestly does not feel as good as it did on the Pirelli's. I am very surprised at this, and really think that my alignment needs to also be re-adjusted by the tech, so taking the car in Monday to have that addressed.

In the meantime, did anyone that made the switch on a GTS have anything to offer in terms of recommended tire pressures on the PSS for best handling? I know in a prior post Super suggested that he liked 44/44 cold, but wanted to get some other thoughts.

Much thanks in advance.

Cole,

I test drove a 2013 GTS today. Had michelin pilot sports. 38/42. Compared to my S, the gts handled far better. I have Pzero's on the S as you know and perhaps the cars are entirely different but all in all, Michelin's included, what a difference- for the better! I'm sorry you are disappointed so far with the PSS. I had planned on replacing my Pzero with them but may go PS2, if I don't trade for the GTS :-)

Wassy ----First off, get the GTS if you can swing it...what a machine, and you will have no regrets. I am sure this PSS issue will resolve itself once I check the alignment on Monday.

As for the car, how did you know the tire pressures on it? Were you looking at the display in the cat on the TPCM? if so, I have found that those are notoriously wrong, so I use them more for directional guidance (instead relying on my manual gauge when I check each Saturday). Also, perhaps your '13 GTS had miles on the PSS' and mine simply need to "settle in". Oh well, I'll figure it out. Thanks!

Curious...what were they selling the '13 GTS for, and what options were on it? I assume/hope it had the PDCC?

Cole, it was PS2 not PSS. I was stating compared to Pzero they seemed much better. I imagine the PSS will in time too but should be pretty good when new. I looked at the TPMC. for me, I haven't found it off by more than 1/2 pound compared to my 3 analog and digital gauges. Try softening up the pressure and see if that helps with the softer sidewalls. Your assumption that a softer sidewalk should have equal or more pressure than harder to compensate sounds right logically, but try it the other way and see what happens. Can always fill her up with more air! Lol.

I'm working with them and PNA, although PNA has yet to assist. I can say for sure that compared to my S, the GTS did not exhibit most of the issues I have with the S. I did hear the pdk downshifting but I really needed a fine tuned ear to discern it. With my car, oh boy, you know it's there. The whole car was just much more solid feeling, and quiet (except for the exhaust of course LOL) sorry to hijack your thread.

Only downside to this gts is it's silver/black with gloss black dash trim. Prefer different colors, but with black wheels, car looks pretty hot! Hoping I can make this happen and avoid further hassle with my car.

Not sure on price yet, Msrp $134,075. 6500 miles PNA factory rep demo (as I'm told). Yes, had PDCC with PTV +. Also had burmeister. Funny, unless ther me was something wrong with it, I think he Bose sounds far better. This sounded waaaay to tinny. I turned treble down and it got a little better but....only thing missing is rear shades. Woopdy doo! And maybe entry and drive unless it's standard and I missed it. But I did have to put my key in :-( Lol

Well, no GTS for me. Lol. Porsche just called and PNA not willing to offer assistance for replacement. I wish the chairman would drive my car for 3 days. Heck, 2
Hours. I guarantee he won't return it and agree there are too many issues. I was really trying to keep the faith in PNA but this really turned me upside down.

I'll start a seperate thread later...i'm headed over to pick mine up (4th visit this year). Latest two issues - normal. the damage they did to my wheels (curbed all 4 of my 20's on the alignment rack) - too bad, they say I did it (called me a liar even though I have photo evidence the night I dropped the car off that the wheels were fine).

I'm stopping at the BMW dealer on the way home to see if we can make a deal on a 6GC. Done with my dealer, done with this car and PCNA hasn't been "that" helpful now.

MackSea, sorry to hear and of course I understand. I really have been trying hard not to bad mouth PNA, or the car, thinking I just got a bad apple. I was much more hopeful for an easier resolution. I did file For Lemon Law yesterday. PNA will receive today. I asked as a final request For help replacing the car with another one (still showing loyalty to the brand). I can not express how disappointed I am in their response. They are fully aware that a branded title will cost them far more than the $2000 I'm upside down and some assistance towards the new car. The $2000 I would even eat. They did offer, btw, to "still perform the warranty work on the items they deem not normal, but nothing else". There isn't another car I'd want at this point so I'm in a pickle here. There are too many things they find normal, that aren't. In fact, why weren't they present in the gts today?

Prior to the Pana, I owned a 640i gran coupe. It's a BMW and a great machine. For a v6, I thought it was plenty powerful. Was an msport and ride was a little too harsh over a lot of imperfections in road but all in all, was very happy. I've owned an excessive amount of BMW's in last 20 years, but bored. Great deals on BMW nowadays.
