Real Time traffic on Navi

Hey all,

Just wondering does real time traffic just work when you have the Navi working to navigate you to a location? and doesn't work when your just driving without the navi pointing you to a direction?

I have XM with real time traffic. Noticed this morning with big slow down on the other side of freeway, the Navi didn't show the freeway as slowed, the lanes a different color or arrows like a BMW or Lexus would.

The Sirius XM traffic service is horrible. Only very major roads are covered and traffic jams only appear on the NAV 30 minutes later. I was so disappointed I canceled my service and went with smartphone + Kenu Airframe + Waze app. The Waze app is awesome at reporting police cars and police traps.

I thought the NAV in general sucked in the Porsche, and especially their implementation of real time traffic. Wife has it in her Touareg with data supplied by XM and it works fine. I have it in the BMW and it works great (and I have no idea where they're getting the data but it is ***** on).

Pretty disappointed for a 100K car. Go figure luxury sports car, yet you have honda's and even hyundai's have better navi.... SMH

But, it the "real time" traffic on the navi active while your just driving and not having the Navi navigate you to a destination?

The "real-time" traffic is active when you're just driving around and not actively navigating to a place. It shows up as green, yellow, or red stripes, but only on highways. Unlike the newer BMWs which use Google's traffic data, the XM traffic does not show traffic info for local roads.

To better see traffic information, I usually have the zoom at 1 mile for the indicator. This way I get a good view of the major highways in the morning and can decide if a detour is necessary.

As other posters have pointed out, the traffic information is delayed, often by several minutes. This is true on both XM and Google, and also true for Sigalert.

That's why I was questioning it as going to work I saw the north bound lane going to SF and it was turtle slow to dead stop, but when I checked my navi, it just shows both traffic lanes the same red as If I was regularly driving around with no traffic in the free way and the navi has the freeways red.

So if I were viewing the real time Map, a there was traffic in the freeway, what would it look like? arrows? different color than red on the lane or what symbols colors should I expect.

thanks in advance for the time and help.

I didnt find one good car out there (high end or not) that is precise on the traffic. Waze app is the only one there with exact info. Google maps uses waze.

Red = Stop and Go Traffic
Yellow = Traffic is a lil slow
Green = Traffic moving close to speed limit
I don't ever see that? the free ways always color solid red. regardless if no traffic, no cars. I don't see green nor yellow ever. i'll take a picture tomorrow.

if they can't fix the all red lanes on normal drive and no traffic, I'll cancel my just recently purchsed xm with real time traffic. and only keep the xm radio service.

Freeway line is always red, even if you have navtraffic. The navtraffic line is displayed beside the freeway red lines, in either green, yellow or red to indicate traffic flow.

This is how it looks like with navtraffic subscription.

no on the green. only see the freeways as red. So what should I see if there is a dead traffic or slow movement. Thanks again for all the help.
