I've experienced that with a CLK 55 AMG I previously owned.

It wasnt as loud as yours but it was as annoying. The tech @ MB said it was normal.

I would agree it is the brakes cooling down. Keep in mind the Panamera is no lightweight brakes especially in the front are working hard and heating up to slow it down. If you are hearing noises while you are driving then I'd say you have an issue liked the brakes were not seated right.

So I picked up my new (to me) 2013 Panamera GTS last night. It's a fantastic car and I feel very fortunate to own such an amazing vehicle!

When I drove it home last night and parked it in my driveway, I noticed that after the ignition was shut off that the car was making some intermittent "clanking" noises. The sounds were similar to small pieces of metal hitting one another, also similar to someone rustling a chain. The sound wound "ping" for a split second, every 20-30 seconds. Slowly fading away and becoming less frequent after about 10 mins.

The sounds seem to be coming from the suspension. I had the car in Sport Plus mode when the ignition was turned off, so the air suspension was in its lowest setting. The same thing happened this morning when I drove the car to work…..as the car “settled” into the lowest suspension setting, it started clanking as I locked the doors and walked away.

Does anybody know what sound this may be? It definitely does not sound normal. I’ve had other cars with air suspensions, including a 2009 Cayenne GTS, and it never made this noise! Could it be the standard suspension links making this noise? Seems very odd.

I will take it to the dealership for service if nobody has come across this same problem. My car has 17,500 miles and it was serviced routinely at Champion Motorcars in Florida throughout the previous owner’s history. Nothing in the service records indicate a problem with this noise. The car seems to drive fine, and the air suspension operates normally, raising and lowering the car without problems.

If anyone has any advice, please let me know!

Thanks so much. It’s great to be a part of the Panny Family!!!

Attached is one bad pic that I took last night. Better pics to come after a full detail tomorrow!
How are you liking the car otherwise? That noise could be brake rotor thermal growth against what's immediately behind it.

I really love the car so far! It's everything I expected it to be. Drives great, looks awesome and is quite comfortable! I had the opportunity to put about 100 miles on it yesterday and really enjoyed every mile of the drive.

One thing I do notice is there is quite a bit of air noise coming through the driver's door at higher speeds. Anything over 70 mph yields some pretty significant noise inside the cabin. Do you guys experience the same thing? Perhaps the gaskets on my car are dried out and need replacement.

Otherwise the car is great. I'm still hearing the clanking noise from the brakes but it's not bothering me as much. I'll probably bring it into the dealership to have it checked out but I'm afraid they'll tell me that I'll need new brakes to fix the problem (not under warranty), regardless if I'm due for new brakes or not. I have 17,500 miles, so I may be due for brakes soon, but if hate to get them changed prematurely if it's not completely necessary.

Anyway, I got the car detailed on Saturday and took the following pics.

I've never heard any air noise, even at speeds of more than twice 70 mph.

Thanks for the feedback....looks like I have a small problem that needs to be fixed. I assume seals and gaskets would be covered under warranty, as these should not wear prematurely within the warranty period. At least I hope they would cover these!

I do get a whistling sound at exactly 48mph on my ptt and some high speed points. Can reproduce the whistle easily. And am taking it to the silver spring md dealer to get it checked this friday. Hopefully they got techs who can quickly diagnose and fix it. Think my car sat in some garage for a long time. In 4 years they had put only 5.5K miles. BTW, at 96 mph I think i hear 2 whistles.

Have them check the window track, just the slightest bit off will effect the seal.

What is meant by "window track"?

In my case, I don't think it's the window track. The track/window seems to be operating normally and seems perfectly aligned. The noise I hear comes from the area near the B pillar right around window sill height. I haven’t checked the condition of the gasket in that area, but I’ll look at it tonight.

5.5K miles in 4 years??? Wow! That's a shame (for the previous owner)....that car is meant to be driven, not sitting stagnant in a garage! Congrats on finding a LOW mileage PTT!

Yes and it's a shame for him. Hopefully it does not crop into a headache for me because of the fact it's meant to be driven and was not. The last p4s had 12k miles per year average and had no noises. I imagine there is value in use it or lose it.
