Porsche Universal Charger (AC) details
#91
The Porsche hybrids take the standard J1772 connector. That's an industry standard charging cord (though most people call them "chargers," technically they're just a smart electrical cord, and the actual battery charger is built into the car). The official Porsche cord is bulky and expensive, so if you don't have one, it doesn't make a lot of sense to buy one instead of a 3rd party adapter.
Amazon has a bunch of different J1772 Electrical Vehicle Service Equipment (EVSE) "chargers" for around $200. You probably don't have a 240v outlet in your garage, so you should get either a 120v charger, or a dual-voltage 120/240. I'd spring for the latter in case you decide to add a 240v outlet later, they're not much more expensive than 120v chargers.
For example, a quick search turned up this: for $280.
I personally had an Aero 120/240 Turbocord in addition to the Porsche charger. There are photos of it in the thread. It's a bit pricier ($500), and you don't really get anything extra for going more expensive. At the time I purchased it, it was the least expensive compact charger I could find.
240v charging is much, much faster than 120, because not only are you doubling the voltage, the amperage is much higher as well. 120v chargers are limited to 10 amps, for a total of 1.2 kW; a 240 charger can draw 15, for 3.6 kW.

You need to decide on what you are going to do on the power supply side at the location where you plan to charge the car.
Do you have or do you plan to run 220?
If you are going to use 110, then expect to be underwhelmed in terms of charge times.
As mentioned, there are a few aftermarket charge controller options. But take a decision on the supply side first.

Thanks for the link and the help. I will be installing the 220 so I will get the chord that works with both so we can use it if we travel. Awesome info.
LOL.....had to change my photo too! Realized I still had the Audi. Put the GTS up and just got the wife the Cayenne Hybrid.

I purchased this:
http://www.evchargesolutions.com/Dos...dual-combo.htm
Couldn't be happier. Now $160. Dual voltage (110/240). Fully charges in 2+ hrs at 240V. Relatively small, fits in a small bag. Absolutely no problems thus far.

Are there any ETL / UL / CE testing marks on the device?

I was mistaken on the current price - $220, not $160. Savings from original list was $160. Regarding testing labels, I see the C and E labels on the handle in the product picture but whatever tags were hanging off mine have been removed to ease coiling into the storage bag I use.
