Maintenance costs out of warranty

Hello All,

I currently own an E60 M5 and I'm shopping for a replacement car. A used PTT is at the top of my list. I live in north east Canada and the lack of AWD is killing me.

The M5 is certainly not cheap to own maintenance wise and I'm wondering how the PTT will compare. Over the last 4 years (2 out of warranty) I've spent approximately $5000 yearly on maintenance and repairs. This excludes tires and mods

How does the PTT compare?

Importing from US to Canada doesn't seem like a good option right now. 17% exchange rate + 6.1% import fee + 15% sales tax. My options are to buy a CPO with 2-3 years of warranty. Or pick up a low mileage 2010 with little or no warranty. The premium for a CPO in Canada is considerable. In both cases I plan to keep the car 4-5 years.

Get the one with cpo. Trust me. I would stay away from 2010s out of warranty. Mine is 2010 Ptt and I needed a new engine at $20k. $46k fir new engine. It just failed. But that tells you something. Look at it this way - new radio unit is $3000. Cpo costs around $3k.

Cpo all day...
i had a 2010 4S for literally like 3 months.
Purchased it through my wholesaler, 35,000 miles.
lets see oil pump bad, tensioner, small valve cover gasket leaking, rear strut bad..
And thats not counting brakes etc...
luckily damaged occurred in transit we reciuoed recouped some money and got rid of it.

Thanks for the replies.

I meet with a local Porsche dealer yesterday and they offered me $13,000 less than black book for my car . So I guess I'll be selling my car privately.

I checked for an extended warranty passed the CPO. And they did offer something but it doesn't seem like a very good deal. $3000 policy covers up to 10 years / 200,000km. $10,000 maximum claims throughout the life of the policy and maximum $4000 per claim. Certainly wouldn't help for a transmission or engine failure.

Does anyone know of a Canadian aftermarket warranty for Porsche? One option is to buy a 2010 / 2011 CPO and supplement with an after market warranty.

Also if anyone has experience purchasing a CPO in Canada what is the typical wiggle room from the asking price?

CPO is pretty much bumper to bumper, everything is covered.
