2nd generation Panamera - Resale values on current

Hi guys, I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2010 Panamera Turbo with low miles, extended factory warranty, Burmeister, Sport Chrono, PDCC etc. Very well optioned out. My brother in law just sold his 2011 Panamera today because he said when the 2016 comes out with an updated body style it's going to really hurt the resale values on the 2010-15 models.

What are your thoughts on this? I'm really excited to buy this car and appreciate your input. He gave me an example of his AMG CLS63 which when the new body style came out killed his resale value.

I value your opinion as Porsche owners...thanks

Galves or Carguru have comparative prices. To me CPO'd car is worth getting from a Porsche dealer. The next body style will be a bit lighter, longer and wider, but from the photos around do not look that much different from pre or post '14's. Also will have a new NA V8 engine and possibly an MT. I would get the Panamera Turbo you have selected and enjoy it for a few years when the new Panamera will be a couple of years old.

Andrew thanks for your reply. I appreciate it. Yeah I'm moving forward with this purchase...I'm pretty excited. The previous owner took great care of the car and has been amazing to work with during the purchase process. He even paid to have a PPI done for me at the Porsche dealership. I'm going to post a picture soon as it's mine. :<)

First of all after owning over 425 cars in the last 25 years I can tell you this unless it is something very special ( like when the 430 spider was selling used for 150K over sticker) high end cars tend to drop in value pretty fast. Some cars are worse than others but they sold an awful lot of Panameras and the buying pool for these high end sedans and coupes is pretty small and the more players that enter (Jag with their f and Merc with the GT) each segment the faster used car values will drop, as you can see some Panamera's are already selling at less than half of the original sticker. But consider this the 2010 car you bought is 4 years old and Porsche does not look at its customers from the standpoint of what value the cars has after 4 years since in their minds that customer is changing cars before then. The way automakers look at it the person who can afford to pay over 150K for a new car is not the type to think about what it is going to be worth three or four years later. Before my Panamera I had a 2008 S class AWD it was two years old when I bought it and I paid almost 50% off sticker. Look at the price of a 4 year old 7 series or a even a 2 year old B7. The one year 650i coupe I just bought has 12k miles on it had a 114K sticker and it is certified and I paid less than half of sticker. You see where I'm going here I hope. So buy the car enjoy it forget about what it is going to be worth. In my opinion that is the only way to enjoy cars like these.

Thanks MrPrice. I appreciate your response...i agree with you and understand what you are saying. I received the Pre Purcahse Inspection report last night from the dealership and everything checked out....it will need brakes in 10K miles but everything else looked good and still has a little of a year left on the warranty. I never thought I would own a Panamera Turbo!

You are safe with your purchase. Buying a first year car ensures you have the cheapest of the current generation. The price you pay already should include a lot of depreciation. Yours will never compare to the price of the next generation.

I am more at risk because I have just ordered a custom configuration 2015 4S, but it is a great car and do not like to buy first year on a new generation and do not want to wait 2 or more years to enjoy this fantastic machine. Enjoy!!

No you don't, smart money always buys these cars CPO'd, unless of course you lease and write off!

The dealership told me towards the end of this year as a 2016. But then I also read it could be in 2016 as a 2017 model....
