So my 2012 PTT arrived today...

So I bought a 2012 PTT out of town. They shipped it to me today. In the meantime they allowed me to borrow a 2014 S hybrid.
I really enjoyed driving the hybrid. I was surprised at how much power it had.

The PTT came today with 12k miles on it. I am disappointed.. The paint has a lot of swirls in it... the interior has smell thats not objectionable but not pleasant. When I saw it at the dealership it was in the body shop having some refurbishment work done so I couldn't really appreciate what I am seeing now. The steering wheel also shakes when braking.

I'm thinking of taking it back. I know it is unthinkable to give up a PTT possibly for something with less power but when you are spending this kind of money you want TOTAL satisfaction

Should I just suck it up and quit being so picky?

Take it back and see what the dealer can do to improve your satisfaction.

Take it back. The only option is to see if a good detailer can fix the cosmetics. I would be more concerned with the wobble as that could mean more.

When you're spending ~$100k, which is my rough estimate from AutoTrader prices, you should be completely satisfied with the condition of the car when it arrives.

I don't know that you have to cancel the deal. The problems you describe are fixable. A decent detailing should fix the swirls on the surface of the paint - it's highly unlikely it's a deeper problem that requires repainting to fix. The steering wheel wobble is something the dealership should absolutely repair.

I'm kind of surprised that you were happy with the S Hybrid's power. I own one, and I feel it's underwhelming in the default e-Power mode. It does have the power, but it only really delivers it if it's in Sport mode. Which unfortunately turns off electric cruising.

Or, alternately, if you never charged the car and they didn't deliver it to you with a full battery, you may have been driving in the un-named hybrid mode, which is the mode you get when none of the named modes (e-Power, Sport, e-Charge) is on. It defaults to that when the battery drops to 20%. That's more responsive than the e-Power mode, though not as good as Sport.

Was this a CPO car, because if it was they are supposed to supply you with the CPO check list assuring that everything was checked and it passes. That would have included new tires (if needed) as well as a test drive. Paint I can understand most people do not take very good care of there cars and you can fix that though it cost you $500 or more if you are not inclined to not it yourself. The smell well that could be many things like what was used to clean the interior or those hanging things that are supposed to make your car smell good. Leather tends to take in that scent after a while and once again a good cleaner can remove that. My dealer would never deliver a car to me that had those issues because they know it would have gone right back to them and I suggest you do the same right now.

A photo of the paint problem could be helpful if you want to know if it can be fixed.

Hell no!
I'd give it back. Look for another.

Shouldn't matter the cost, though at those prices you could argue it matters more..but I wouldn't accept that from a car costing just a fraction of that.

Ok.... I decided to roll up my sleeves and get to work. there were a lot of shine swirls and fine scratches and water stains in the paint.
So I used Meguires system to
1. Clay bar
2. Compound
3. Polish
4. Wax

The car came out really good. The way they should have delivered it to me to begin with. The dealer agreed to pay a detailing fee on the car and I will be taking it back to have the rotors/brakes looked at. I would highly recommend Meguires to anyone. If you use it make sure to get the Dual action attachment for your home drill. It works awesomely and saves you a lot of work.

Next: I will work on the interior leather seats. Not a cigarette smell thank goodness or I would have sent it back

I must say that a PTT is a beast!!! Well in line with my wife's M6. (which has incredible acceleration)

It's good to hear that you fixed the paint issue, or at the very least improved it greatly.

Logimind I would recommend that you take a look at he Meguires DA drill attachment. It is truly idiot proof. I use to detail cars when I was younger. You are right regular buffers really are a concern for burning a car's paint. Dual action buffers make all the difference. The attachment fits a regular home drill which makes it very convenient and easy to use. I got fantastic results and I am far from a professional nor am I very patient.

The car came out awesome. I was out today and got a ton of compliments. Lots of thumbs up today!!!! So cool!!! Literally there are no swirls stains or imperfections. The car looks like glass. People were shocked that it was a 2012.

Yes I did buy this car from a dealer and it is CPO'd. I am thrilled to have a PTT with 12k miles on it and a ton of warranty on the car. 2018 or 100k miles. Much better than a new car. This is the only way to fly. Let someone else eat the depreciation and I get the great warranty.

By the way did I mention that a PTT is a BEAST!!!! Holy cow this thing has some kick to it.

Consider it done my man!!! Will do tomorrow. I should have done before and after pics but I guess I wasn't as confident about getting the results that I did.
