Oil Change..

Quick question for the experts.. I purchased my car as a CPO in late January at 26k miles. I currently have 35k miles on it and I was wondering if I should get an interim oil change now or wait until 40k to get the larger service that includes changing the oil.. My SA recommended I wait.. I just want to make sure it doesn't cause any problems down the line.. Thoughts?..

It's an expensive car, and $200 should give you peace of mind.

9K miles is not a walk in the park with turbo/hot engines.

I would do it, and be at peace with myself. BUT I do it every 7500 miles anyways, so I might be crazy.

I have a 4S so I don't have any turbos.. I may get it done just to have the peace of mind..

If your car is an oil burner (some are some are not) then I'd say yes. I have a 4S as well and I'd wait if it were me.

I'm on track for about 5-7k miles a year and plan on doing a yearly oil change, as recommended by the porsche club local chapter and my service guy.

Because I don't run up a lot of mileage on my P4S, I change mine annually. If you're adding a quart every 1K, then it may be a wise choice to go ahead and chang your oil now.

Isn't adding a quart every 1K miles pretty much like continuously changing your oil without a filter change?

Just in case you aren't being facetious... no. The point of an oil change isn't to replace the oil, which doesn't change, it's to get rid of the dirt and other particulates that gradually work their way into the oil. That stuff sticks around in a car that's using a lot of oil.

My 2011 4S had 41k miles on it when I bought it and in the 4000 miles I put on it prior to taking it in for service, it burned through 3 qts of oil and was half way through the 4th. When I took it in for to be checked out due to the fact that my factory warrenty was expiring at the end of June, one of the things I wanted checked out was the oil consumption. The Service Manager told me (and I knew this as well) that the oil consumption I was experiencing was within limits but they would replace the oil separator to see if that improved things. I put 1200 miles on it during the next week driving from northern California to San Diego and back and it didn't use a drop of oil. So maybe that solved the problem, sure seems like it did but will have to see how it does over the next month or so under my normal around town short trips that I usually do.

^^ I will look into that.. I thought it was normal to burn that much oil with these cars but if there's a way to stop it then I'll have them fix it.. Luckily the car is a CPO...
