40,000 Mile Service

What are folks paying for this service? I'm in the DC area and have been quoted from $1,900 - $2,600 for this service.. Mind you I found a Porsche PDF from a dealer in Kentucky that states this service for my 12' P4S should be around $1,600. Thoughts? I suppose it varies by state. See below for the link.

I'm not looking forward to doing a 40K service on a car that has under 30K miles on it. But it will be 4 years.

About $2000 was my quote.

How do I know? Brought my 2011 PTT in for a checkup since it still had a little factory warranty left. Car has 16,500 miles. Dealer calls me and explains my PTT actually left the factory in 2010 even though it's a 2011 MY. Goes on to tell me since the car is five years old, despite having 16.5k miles, it's due for the 40,000 mile service.

So we get into it on the phone. I tell him suncoast parts http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/PK970V8TT30K.html sells a kit for 200 bucks with the parts for the service. So wtf is the $2000 quote all about? Something about having to remove the front bumper to replace one of the air filters.

A friend of mine used to be a Porsche SA and he told me that the indy shops don't have the specialized equipment necessary to do the service properly. He was adamant that I get it done at the dealer..

+1. Can use this website http://www.pcarshops.com/ to help find them in your area for other services if they cannot do this next one at least. Can also ask them if they're equipped to perform those services as well.

Replacing the engine air filter at the 40k/4yr mark is BS. Manual doesn't go into replacing the engine air filter until 80k miles, which does require removal of the front bumper cover.

From what I hear it's around $1500. If you cycle through the display, there are indicators for major or minor service and how far you are from them.

On the Turbo, the major service is at 30k and the person before me paid $1350. This was spark plugs, air filter, etc... This might be the same service for a 4S at 40k... not sure though.

Based on your SA friends comments, I think he is wrong for saying that only a dealer can perform these services. I know a handful of independent shops in my area that do all of these services and more, routinely on all types of Porsches. Can't imagine what tools your friend was talking about that is only available for dealers. Look up some well respected porsche independent shops and give them a call if you want.

I just noticed on that brochure from kentucky that you don't replace engine air filter till 80k?

Is that right?

The 40k seems really high for what it is, they are charging $600 for brake fluid flush?

The breakdown on 12/29/2014 when I did this service is as follows:

Oil filter insert 45.99
O-ring 23.99
Alum seal ring 8.99
Bulk 0w40 M1 QTY (8) 79.92
V-99 Cleaner 22.99
Spark Plug QTY (6) 145.44
Hybrid Particle 69.99
Filter Insert 71.06

Total Parts 468.37 Total Parts and labor $1539.36

I have no idea what a couple of those things are like the hybrid particle thingie for 69.99 but this was what they said was needed so I just had it all done.
