My 971TT Update

I installed the OEM tinted taillight kit and blacked out the "PORSCHE" that goes across the LED strip.

I absolutely love how both came out!

Yes! That looks mean. I’m getting my tinted lights today by mail. Can you tell me how to remove the taillights. Do I just pop off the rubber caps with a pick and loosen some screws and pull them off?

Thanks!

Well you're going to get 4 pieces in the mail today.

The center 2 strips, you need to have the spoiler in the up position. Remove the 3 black trim pieces that you see under the spoiler. The most important part is to remove the "key" that is underneath the center black plastic piece, under the middle bolt. This is vital! IF you don't remove this piece and continue to tug on the 2 strip lights in the middle, you will break the clips that hold the light in. Also remove the plastic pieces on the corner of each strip light with the trunk in open position.

My last generation Panamera was so easy to remove the actual taillights, but the the 971 is a major PITA! You have to remove the rear bumper to get to the hidden screws that are underneath the rear quarter panels. There is no way around this and I tried for half a day to be creative and not remove the bumper.

thanks for info. so for the bumper removal is it a matter of accessing them through the wheel well. I see one screw towards back of wheel well but that’s it. Where are the rest of the screws that are needed to be removed. How long did it take and do you need a second person to hold the bumper cap during removal?

I tried the wheel well but it was too difficult to get to for me.

I believe there is 3 or 4 near the latch and you have to remove the rear skid pad to see the rest of the accessible screws. I did this the same week I got my car...I can't remember exactly to be honest.

I removed the wheels to remove the wheel liner. I used a brick with a blue blanket on top to settle each side of the bumper down. 2 people is easier, but with some creativity you can do it yourself.

2.5-3 hour job for the first time. If I had to do it again, probably 1.5-2 hr tops if you go slow.

last thing. For the black Porsche letters, you removed the whole black plastic trim piece right? I’m thinking of buying this piece and putting the black letters on the new piece that way i could go back and put it to stock on lease turn in. Then sell it off in 2 years when lease done. My car was in Rancho mirage for months on the lot and I don’t like how it’s got lots of water spots or sun damage. Might as well get a new piece for the black letters.
This piece can be removed without removing the bumper right?

Yes removed the whole trim but it isn't necessary to replace the letters. I did it because it was easier for me to take the letters off and use elbow grease to remove the leftover adhesive with googone.

Just follow the instructions I gave to removing the inner 2 trim pieces because the center strip is held in by the key that holds the center lights too. No removal of bumper is necessary. Should be out in less then 10 minutes.

So opened up the light boxes and saw the big red US reflector on the sides. Forgot about that. It’s not the clean euro look with all grey lenses.I might go with my project of ordering the euro lights and see it doesn’t cause any warnings lights with the computer onboard. Plus it’ll have the amber turn signal.Edit:Keeping the US spec ones. They look great and I won’t have to worry about any computer or warning lights.

Did you just remove the chrome PORSCHE or did you put glossy black letters after removing the faoxeu chrome letters. I ordered a new black plastic plate and factory glossy Porsche letters but the black trim piece came with chrome letters already installed
