Too much exhaust smoke? (Video)
hey all I took this video recently, this was on a fair day not too hot or cold, it was probably about 60 degrees farenheit. is this normal for the panamera to have this kind of exhaust? I did add some fuel additive from porsche few days ago dont know if that makes a difference but in general its always had a bit more exhaust smoke then i am used to with my other cars.
video here:
video here:
Is the smoke white or dark/black and how long does it last? If the car is parked outside overnight, there will likely be condensation in the exhaust. The condensation will burn off as white smoke and stop once the exhaust is hot. If the engine is burning oil, you would likely have a lot of soot on the tailpipes and around the bumper?
the smoke looks white based on the video isnt it? and this was after i was running errands so i dont think its condensation unless its the remains of it? i do see this smoke from time to time like this so i wasnt sure if this was normal. as for the soot the insides is darker no doubt but i thought the dark tailpipes were normal with porsche.
See this article for an initial analysis of your tailpipe smoke. Soot in the tailpipe is normal.
that looks more like vapor to me, but i did read the errands comment. it would bother me if it were persistent and lasted as you drove. does it go away? if so, i don't think i'd sweat it.
hey C4S, its not all the time, its intermittent.
GTstreet was yours like that all the time? Did you experience high oil consumption before the AOS replacement as well?

Yes higher oil consumption to the point I had dealer run oil consumption test. It was smoking all the time on start up and not going away, even after fixing the AOS it took aggressive driving to get all the oil out of the system. I would occasionally get p1074 mass air flow code which makes sense since there was a slight tear in the diaphragm of the aos causing blow by.
Oil consumption is 1qt every 1000 miles or so but I drive it hard and it's always hot here. Porsche said it falls into their specs. When AOS is on its way out you should get random air meter codes for example maf reading, oxygen sensor error etc.
Try the oil cap test while engine is running. The oil cap may be very difficult to remove when the engine is running due to high vacuum levels. In addition, you may hear hissing from the separator when it's running. This is caused by air being sucked in past the diaphragm seal.
well they think there may be an issue with oil air separator based on what they see but they need to take off hoses and such to confirm, since there were no fault codes i will continue to monitor the situation unless it gets worse...can it stay this way for years or will it progressively get worse?
