Got one LED strip from Ebay (China) for $5 and I spent 30 min in the car tonight playing with it. It fits between any two panels, it's flexible to bend around corners and it's bright. I need to see how easy it is to cut and fit exactly, then how do I wire it in.
Do me a favor and stick one of those up underneath the center console trim area. There's a decent sized gap you can feel if you place your hand under where the leather wrap around the console. This way you don't even see the light source, it'll just be an ambient glow...
The ones on the door looks good, but the other places might be too much and out of place. Just my opinion
Yeah, just fooling around for now. I don't want to pimp it out but at the same time I'm missing the ambient lights from the 7 Series. It's way too dark in the 970 at night.

Will do this weekend.

Not originally but I'm thinking replacing the regulator with a variable one, so I alter the brightness with a small remote.

for what it's worth, that's already where Porsche sticks lights when you have ambient lighting.

I tried with the LED cable and it didn't do much because while the cable looks bright when looked at directly, it doesn't produce enough ambient/indirect light to illuminate its surroundings when it's hidden.
What I did though is try to stick in there a much brighter white LED strip and it looks very good, lots of indirect, diffuse light. It's very difficult however to make it stick w/o looking ghetto, because of the curvature of the edge and the shinny plastics under the rim. After 5 hours of hair pulling I figured out a way but my Sunday was gone so it will have to wait another week. To be continued, I am not dropping it.
12 hours and $75 later I've done the central console and all 4 footwell. It's the same natural white as the original Porsche lights, it's hidden and not too bright. I like it. Better ambiance at night.
As a bonus, I also swapped the door lights for Porsche logo projector.
Driver's door logo projector. Passenger's door logo projector and console led strip. This was the wrong color initially, too cold, I swapped it for a warmer white. Driver footwell and central console. My sexy legs. Rear right passenger footwell. Sexy legs again, rear left passenger footwell. Rear left passenger footwell.
