By the way, I assume you are using the jack stand to lift the entire car up for easier access? Or are you using the ramp to raise the front up?

I only use ramps to raise the front, and so far only when doing oil change. When I changed the HPFP I was laying down on the fender at times if raised up it would be even worse to reach. You can pull the front bumper without raising the front. There are maybe two bolts that are hard to reach because the tire/wheel is there but doable with the right tool/extension. I even torqued one to spec as instructions note...

Interestingly it looks like I'll be chasing a coolant leak on the Panamera as well. Has anyone been able to find a common culprit?

Mine's leaking past the cap. Fairly new purchased from dealer and even bought larger o-rings to more firmly seal to the reservoir neck. I stepped up to an even larger o-ring and can barely tighten it in place. I can see coolant pool under the car in the vicinity either when coolant temp reaches 201 F or shut down....

Panamera S 2013,bleeding cooling system

I was already happy that the official Porsche one is 1/4 that. But heck, the official bleeding of air instructions does not mention any fancy devices, just setting the bleeder valve, climate control to heat at one bar fan speed, Sport Mode, and revving to 3500 RPM. Gotta love the Porsche for ease of maintenance....

thanks for the post, I am replacing my slightly leaking radiator, I am familiar with the valve near the cooling filler neck but the factory manuals show very convoluted equipment and not require what it is that needs to be done, you previously stated that other than this purge valve not much else is needed, do you know where you found that information?

thanks again for your reply👍

The site no longer exists but I think it was:

techinfo3.porsche.com

Replaced by:

https://client-cert.ppn.porsche.com/...orization.ping

Which is exclusively for Porsche service companies, (not like my parents' medical office) 😭

I have an AllDataDIY subscription now for the Panamera (don't waste your money).

Document WM 193817

Special tool (EDIT- 6096) (000 721 969 60)

Have to figure out cheapest from dealer or
https://porsche.snapon.com

(Don't be afraid if not in stock on the SnapOn site it comes quicker than estimated).

I bought VAS6968 (30L container I hope to connect to one of those cheap eBay pressure test/coolant change kits. I removed the eBay link because it's much cheaper direct from Snap On. Note instructions say to fill it up all the way to 30 L).

Look Right Under the Picture for Instruction Link- Download While it's Hot!

@stevefreeman If all you want to do is a drain and fill all you need to do is:

Open filler cap
Raise bleeder valve clip up to open it
Drain from radiator drain plug
Fit drain plug
Then fill. (Whatever tool you use can follow the directions). (Best results if you raise the container with fresh coolant to level of reservoir).

https://porsche.snapon.com/special-tools-detail.aspx?itemId=120163

(See "Notes" I'm going to download myself a copy right now)...

Then follow the bleeding (top off first as you already have the cap off) to make sure.

I just bumped this thread up as I needed to edit a couple of errors.

I looked at what I have and I don't have instructions on radiator nor AC compressor I'm afraid.

Hi, i've question : how many liters did you fill when you open only drain radiator ?
On the technical manual they say :
Proceed as follows if the cooling system needs to be bled again (in order to clean the cooling
system for example):
1. 4.1. Disconnect coolant hoses from the oil/water heat exchanger and collect
emerging coolant.
2. 4.2. Disconnect the small hose beside the generator and collect emerging coolant. A
fastening screw for the generator is hidden behind the hose.
3. 4.3. Disconnect hose for the coolant reservoir in the left wheel housing and collect
emerging coolant.
4. 4.4. Disconnect hose for the run-on pump in the left wheel housing and collect
emerging coolant.

Thanks

I’m afraid I never actually did this, but yes unless like me where I added a stop leak, or you suffer a head gasket failure in which oil gets into the coolant, you don’t really need the cleaning step and just do a drain and fill.

I am still topping off coolant monthly, haven’t figured out where it’s going, and this I felt is enough of a change that I haven’t gotten around to replacing the coolant. I did notice coolant leaking out the reservoir cap. Dispite all efforts to replace the cap, with several different caps, as well as buying different replacement gaskets, I eventually replaced the overflow tank with a new Porsche one. This helped the coolant loss quite a bit but didn’t stop it completely. I want to say I replaced 1 - 2 gallons when I removed and replaced the reservoir, but I’m afraid I didn’t measure it, just a rough estimate.

I don’t think Porsche does, or are your referring to the silicate in the G40 formula that Porsche prescribes?

(I did put in K-Seal. For a little while I could smell a scent of ceramic from the vents, like the smell you’d find in a pottery workshop where people are molding clay, and then it stopped. The reason was if repair costs would be (very) expensive my wife would just have us trade it in vs getting it repaired).
