Winter tire set - 20"

Hi,

As it is provincial low to have winter tires installed between December and March, which winter tires do you recommend for a '16 Panamera GTS with 20" wheels (9.5" F 11.5" R)?

Thanks

I have Michelin Arctic Alpin PA4’s in 20” size. Great for our Canadian winters. Porsche spec (called N-SPEC). Amazing tires in the ice and snow!

I personally favour Michelin tires. Top rated on Consumer Reports and Porsche spec too. I’ve had good experiences with the brand in general. I’ve been on this forum for years and there is nothing like tires that gets people fired up and emotions going so you will likely get the contrary opinion from others!

I like wheels and have 3 separate sets (I’ve had more in the past but my wife told me I had a problem so I divested!). I use Michelin Arctic Alpin PA4 in the winter and Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus N-Spec in the spring and fall (both 20”). I have 22” wheels for the summer and run Pirelli PZero Nero GT’s (only option in this size).

Congrats on the GTS! Best sounding Panamera for sure!

Thanks for your advice.

I have a set of one year old Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires on my current BMW 650 GC (which I am trading in for the GTS) and I have had two sidewall separations which Michelin covered with two free tires as they found they were manufacturing defects. I included two pictures, one off the rim and one on. This type of failure is quite shocking.

This is why I am leaning towards the Pirellis.

Wow! That’s not good. Understand your apprehension with the brand. Glad that they did the right thing with replacement. I’ve had no issues with Michelins but I’ve never had the Pilot Sport 4S.

I’ve had Pilot Super Spots, Arctic Alpins, and Pilot Sport A/S Plus (2 sets) on my Panamera. In other cars I’ve run Pilot Sport A/S 3+ and Arctic Alpin PA5 SUV tires. No issues and excellent wear. Pirellis are know to wear more quickly (especially the PZero summer tires).
