Window tinting

Hi,

I was told by the dealer selling me the '16 GTS that tinting of the windows would result in the scratching of the tints as it is very tight fit between the windows and the tracks. Is this true?

As well, what should the a fair price to tint the windows on a Panamera?

Thanks

This could very well be true. I just picked up my PTT last Thursday and noticed scratches on the tint. When I go out to the garage today I’ll take some pics and post them here.

Thanks PapaB. Much appreciated.

Are the scratches very noticeable? Is it on all four windows?

Would you recommend doing the tinting if these scratches are something I would have to live with?

Tint scratch is a known problem on the Panamera’s. You’ll need to find a reputable tinter that is willing to remove the door panels to install moleskin / felt to prevent the scratching. I paid $399 for ceramic xpel tint on all four windows and the rear, and then an additional $50 per door panel removal.

Here are the pictures of my scratches. If/when I replace the fonts I’ll definitely look into the moleskin/felt.

Thanks for the pictures. I really do appreciate it. Are they more noticeable when you are looking in from the outside or out from the inside? Also, did these scratches occur the first few times the windows were lowered and raised or was it more gradual?

I will definitely search for a place that can install them using a felt (I will ask the dealer if they can install the tints using felt).

Thanks again.

They are more noticeable from the inside looking out. I just got this car last Thursday, so not sure about the history of the scratches. Good luck!

Thanks. I spoke to the dealer who said they would install felt to eliminate the chances of scratches. Appreciate your help.

By the way, what % tint would you recommend for the side and rear windows? My car is Jet Black Metallic with a black interior (I do not want the car to look too mobster like).

Thanks

I would probably go with whatever is legal in your state (same % all the way around since I don't like the darker rear windows and lighter front windows look, but that's just personal preference). FWIW, I just had a Maserati before the PTT and the windows were super dark all around, and I hated not being able to see medians, etc. at night.

Yes for the scratches without the felt, however the shop which did my tent, refused to place the felt despite I bought it for them and claimed they don't know how to dot it? They changed the scratched tent in two windows, as it happened after 2 weeks on the initial installments. I have black/black car with 30% all windows.

When I found out about this I placed an order for some moleskin strips and spent some time installing it before I got the windows tinted. Here's my post with some photos:
