Coolant Alternative to stop leaking
Coolant Alternative to stop leaking
Porsche, like all mfgs, uses a pressurized coolant system in order to raise coolant boiling point. Typical pressure is about 15 psi; and any fluid under pressure tends to seek escape/leak at the weakest seal in the coolant system. Often, that seal is in the water pumps, hence expensive water pump replacement. There are other potential leak points.
If you could have a coolant system with no pressure whatsoever, then there will be a material relieve from coolant leakage. Such a system exists under "Evans Waterless Coolant." I have a 2013 Jaguar XK coupe, which is highly susceptible to water pump failure. Jaguar has issued several revised water pumps to address this. In my case, I switched to Evans in 2018, shortly after purchasing the car. No leaks whatsoever.
A few words on Evans. It was developed in part by John Fitch. Check out Fitch on Wikipedia, in particular his integrity and ethics. Evans is used by many classic car owners whose original coolant system was not pressurized (i.e. MGTD); and Jay Leno uses it.
On a personal note, I recently noted a coolant leak on my 17 Turbo at 73K miles. I'm 83 and it is difficult to do my own work, so this will be addressed at my dealer. When done, I will have my local indy replace my coolant with Evans.
