AC not cold - FREON LEAKING

I noticed my 2016 PAN4 ( bought in 2015) AC was not cold. I bought a can of Freon from Autozone. The charge meter indicated that it needs a charge. I had a feeling my AC was leaking now. After 10 min charge, my AC is cold. Good. Last year, I had an AC maintenance @ Porsche for $250. They said AC was OK, and they put dice in the freon so they can detect the leak later. Now they found the leak.

A/C CONCERN DIAGNOSIS
Comments: AFTER UTILIZING BORE SCOPE AND REFRIGERANT DETECTOR FOUND VISIBLE LEAK COMING FROM TOP CORNER OF EVAPORATOR CORE. REFRIGERANT DETECTOR GOES OFF WHEN STUCK INTO EVAPORATOR CORE AREA. EVAPORATOR CORE IS LEAKING REFRIGERANT AT A VERY SLOW RATE. REPLACE EVAPORATOR CORE AND EXPANSION VALVE.
Repair Estimate:
$11085.20

I will not fix it. Keep charge every year or sell the car.
Is it difficult to service the AC with indy guy? what's your recoomendation?

Thanks.

why remove dashboard for leak proof? Don't understand the reason behind. full report of diagnosis from Porsche. $$$ to fix. The car will be gone soon. $50 freon can does the job for now this summer. Work Great ...

I have a 2011 and had my freon refilled at an indy because I don't have the machine and it's not been an issue. At the end of the day while the seals are supposedly sensitive to age and overfilling, there is nothing otherwise "special" about the A/C system in these cars. Any decent indy can handle it.

Thank you, Tallpaul. DIY, easy to fill the freon to mask out the leaking issue. The issue is not a charging. There is a slow leak ...my AC is working and cold now. when it is not Cold, I just put some more in.

There is nothing special about these systems and a good indy will have no problem working on it, including leak test to find the source of the leak. The seals are sensitive and known to go out with age - starting as a slow leak and getting worse. Overfilling can accelerate the leak.

@dougcayenne ,
I think that you missed the point that @Marc13190 was making in post number 2, he said to use a "Leak Proof", as in a sealer for the A/C system, otherwise, the dashboard needs to be removed to gain access to replace the evaporator coil, he didn't say to remove the dash and use the sealer...

Also, your continued use of freon is not only bad for the environment, but for your A/C system, as I am sure you are just using the auto parts store cans, without proper gauges, or weight in.

Johnny

Good point and suggestion, Johnny. I could not imagine why Porsche charged me $11K for fixing an AC leak. It must not be very easy, parts and labor. Last year, Porsche charged me $200 with AC fill, and they put the dye on the freon for future debugging. Still cost me $200 for debugging in May. Surprisingly, the A/ pro can R-134a kit comes with a charger gauge for $60. when I plugged in, the indicator showed Low-Need Charge 28 PSI. I could put it in a small amount. The indicator shows 34 PSI. It is good and cold. My Porsche Indy asked for $7-8K to fix. To simplify things, I will sell my 2016 PAN4 very soon. Just DIY complete Brakes and full Tranny service. Oh Well ...
Greatly appreciate for feedback.
