The Italian automaker announced it is recalling roughly 428 Murciélagos in the United States to address an issue with the fuel tank design. According to the manufacturer, a series of internal tests revealed that the spot welds used to secure the fuel pump support inside the tank could possibly fail over time.

Should this happen, a small fuel leak could possibly arise, but Lamborghini says no fires, accidents, or injuries stemming from this issue have been reported.

Lamborghini’s recall reportedly affects 428 cars sold in the U.S., although the company tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it is “unable to estimate the percentage of vehicles potentially subject to this defect.” We’re not surprised -- Lamborghini says the weld failure is caused in part by the force of the gasoline sloshing against the tank’s walls during hard acceleration, braking, and cornering, so cars babied -- not flogged -- by owners are less likely to spring a leak.

Regardless, Lamborghini’s dealers will replace the fuel tank in every 2007 and 2008 Murciélagos free of charge. Owners will be notified of the recall this week, and will be prompted to contact a dealer to schedule the repair. Early reports suggest the first repairs will commence in June, once the revised tanks arrive in the U.S.

I dislike the message this sends...

What else are you supposed to do with a supercar?

Why i would never stomp the gas, ride sideways, or even dream of turning hard in my Lambo.... i don't have one, but why would you ever "flog" on one.
