Thanks superfly

Unfortunately it wasn't me ya saw. I've seen only one identical silver 996 around town, but perhaps there's more I haven't noticed. Musta been the other guy i spotted.

Looks like i'm in for the 28th, and my friend Brent with the new Saturn Sky Turbo appears to be in aswell.

lookin forward.

Hey, I'm in too. Looking forward to it. Where are we meeting at 8?

Hey Nick, send a note to Lager99 (he's got a Red 997GT2). Since he's in Red Deer, maybe he'll join us for part of the run or maybe just to have a coffee there.

PM sent to lager99 (you were cc'd)... hopefully he can tag along.

I'm thinking we meet at 8 sharp at the gateway tourism centre parking lot (between gateway and calgary trail just south of ellerslie). Everyone should have filled up on fuel and Timmy's by then so we can roll.

I also have another thought to bounce off everyone... what do you all think about getting radios before this (and future) trips?

I've talked to a few of the ZR group and they say radios make a world of difference (lead car spotters, reporting road hazards, etc. - not to mention calling to find out where the rest of the group went when we get split by a red light, right guys??? ).

Also, from the videographer p.o.v., it will help set up cool rolling shots for the videos.

We could just go with those FRS units but the range is very limited. I just talked to Whyte Communications and they have an entry level portable VHF unit for $199. They have 4 or 5 in stock and can get more in 3 days or so... the guy is checking to see if there's a cigarette lighter charger available for it as well.

Chime in here if you are interested in that angle and I'll look around at other options and also try to get a group buy discount set up.

Nick

... more on the radio idea ...

So here's another option... similar to FRS, but much better range (up to 45km in a straight line) is the GMRS radios available at the Source. Much cheaper ($110 for a two pack).

http://www.thesource.ca/estore/categ...genum=1&sort=1

For another $15 or so you can get the Source guys to farm up a cig lighter charger plug to charge the handsets in the base.

I was talking to a member of the local Nissan club who told me they use the FRS radios and they work okay as long as the cars are fairly close together, and they don't work well in the city at all.

Thoughts?

Nick,

I've got some FRS radios. In conjunction with Cell phones, that might be enough. I've got a car full of kids, but we could do a 'test run' this weekend if you want :-) The GMRS radios sound cool (and they even work in conjunction with existing FRS frequencies, so maybe if a couple of people had those, and the rest are on existing FRS, it's the best of both worlds........)

Sounds good - the description even calls them GMRS/FRS radios so they prolly work both. I'll pick up a set of the GMRS and we'll play with them this weekend. When is good for you? I could do later Saturday afternoon or Sunday before 10 (so I'm guessing Saturday :-) ).

Sorry Nick.

Won't be able to make this one.

Wow, radios and all. Looks like you're getting serious with these runs.

Have fun, will definitely catch you on the next one!

Hey Andrew. I know Pro (Superfly) won't be able to make it tomorrow, but I'll be there for sure at 8 bells. Hopefully Shalil (Sharp) will have his oil change and such done and will be there too...

C ya then.

I guess we should have said hi to each other when we had the big line of 911's, haha. I'm assuming you guys are the guys that showed up at Humpty's in Sylvan Lake. We had two 964's, an older 911 and an SRT-10.
