Finally Picked up a 997

Wsup guys, My names Danny, and after creeping around the porsche section of 6speed for about a year I finally picked up a 997...

it is the 997.2
Carrera Cab
Fully loaded
White exterior
black interior

I will post picks later I know forum guys love pics

Just a little backround on me, my last few cars have been AMGs...
In the last 4/5 years Ive had a Porsche Cayenne,G55, E55, and I still curently own an S63.
Ive also got a bmw 650 coupe...

Im pretty happy that I got a convert, I havnt ownd a convert "sports car" before and so far I like it a lot. Still debating in my head if I should have taken the coupe C4 over the convert carrera.

Just a few newbie questions.

I already did my 1st mini mod, I change the side markers out, I dont like the orange bulb in there, has anybody replaced it with Led bulbs? any pics? sugestions on where to buy?

Since I did not get the S, Id like to bump up the power on the car. Ive gone to a few of the sponsors websites, and a few of them offer a complete "power package" exhaust, intake, ecu, etc... My question is whos got the best power package, or the best power parts to put together some extra power...Id like to make up atleast 30-40hp, what are the best power mods to do?

As far as wheels go, whats the BIGGEST we can go on a Carrera narow body... Id like to do 20s, I KNOW I KNOW, ride sucksss, but I usally like to put the biggest wheels possible...what can we run on 20s front and rear 20x8.5/9 fronts? 20x10.5/11/11.5 rears? how bout tire size whats the best tire size to run on a 20" wheel/ whats the widest tire size we can run on a 20"? im going to lower it using springs I dont know if that makes a diffrence in tire size/ rim width ...Anyways ill be posting alot more as time goes by, thanks for any help & input I get from you guys... I will post pictures very soon

probably would have been better just to get the S since aftermarket upgrades are not cheap.

max wheel/tire size for the NB is going to be 20x8.5 20x12 with 245/325 tires.

offset for the rear needs to be between 63 and 68mm for the 12

if you wanted more ower you should have gotten the S...... or the turbo

you will spend $5-$10K trying to get the power of a 3.8 and it will never be a 3.8.

just leave it as is...... if you really want, get a full exhaust from GMG, that might add 15HP, but you will get the added benefit or better sound (if you like it)....but this will cost you $3-5k...

A basic software flash and quality exhaust will enhance the drive . I chose FVD and it's being installed this week . I can't tell you aboit the wheels . 20's not only ruin the ride but it also compromises performance . Why not simply upgrade the suspension (Bilstein) , get the exhaust and software and wait until the new wheels age a bit .

Then get 19's . That's what the car was designed for . If you want cool and bling .. get some Dymag Carbon wheels with titanium lugs . They are also functional too but expensive .

Congrats on yoir new car .

Congrats on the new car. I don't think that you need a C4 in Hollywood, a C2 Cab is a much better choice. When I bought my C2S, and asked about C4S's I was told unless I was planning on driving it in the snow, go for the C2S. I think that snow in LA is like a frosty day in Hell.

Congrats on your new ride Danny, it's good to see another AMGer on here... You can get the Tubi and get the ECU flashed for a few more horses.

sorry didn't mean to be a downer.

congrats.

I came to the same conclusion between my C2S and GT3.

Like I said exhaust is the only way to get more power out of these NA cars, and they sound cool too!

I would have to say the HIGH flow cats made the biggest change in sound and power...according to my ears and 'BUTT' dyno..!
I know a few others who will chime in a say the high flow cats too!

BTW congrats on the new car!

Congrats on the new purchase, but I have to agree with others and say, this doesn't sound like the car for you. It seems, as others have been saying, you wanted an S but wound up with a non. You also want to increase performance, yet want to put on massive 20" wheels, which will, somewhat drastically, reduce performance.

My suggestion would be to use the car as is for a while and figure out if you really "need" that extra power, and what, if any, improvements you would like to make. I spent just one day at autocross with my new C4S and learned a ton about the car, and what I should do to make it perform better: driving lessons. The car is already so fast and so capable in the right hands, that adding 40 extra HP and this and that will do nothing for me if I manhandle it around turns. You can't figure out what to improve until you figure out what's wrong in the first place

Stacy and I both have AWE 200 cell cats, and they make the car a lot nicer, sound and performance.
