Nav Update

suncoast has 2010 update for $300
(not suncoast's fault these are over-priced)

http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...7S_electronics

1- since the upgrade requires PCM 2.1, how do i know which PCM version i have ?

2- has anyone gotten the upgrade? is it an improvement with maps and POIs?

3- does anyone know any other way to upgrade the OEM nav ? (not switching to after-market unit )

yes, i realize most phones have GPS buit-in.. i am just exploring the options availabe.

Thx

Yes, that is a subject that has been discussed many times, with no good solution or recommendations.

To find the level of your PCM software, there is a function on the User Manual that explains how to find it.

Let us know what you find out, as a lot of people would like to upgrade their NAV system to something more decent.

MAIN + TRIP, then scroll to software version.

As far as "does anyone know any other way to upgrade the OEM nav," what happens off line is up to you, but we do not condone the sale or exchange of copyrighted material.

I'm interested in finding a solution too!

Getting satellite radio and bluetooth to intergrate with the factory head unit is way overpriced too.

It would be a lot cheaper to buy a new aftermarket head unit but then I'd lose some of the functionality of the sport chrono feature...what to do?

I had the 2010 update applied earlier this year. The update adds roads that were missing - previously it said i was driving in a cow pasture where a 4 lane tollway actually existed.

The update adds lots more gas stations, POI's and hotel icons.

I was able to use one of the 20% off Tequipment coupons so I got a decent deal for an OEM item.

It depends on what current version you have whether you 'need' to take it in.

If you're making a jump from the very orig PCM maps & firmware to the most current maps, you'll likely want to take it in or make sure you get the complete kit to do the full upgrade (not just the most recent map disc). As I recall, there are 3 main PCM firmware releases. Someone can tell you which version you have based on the info you can provide from the MAIN/TRIP button tool/trick.

Good luck

i had the dealer do it, it was painless (except for the wallet part). I'm not sure what version of PCM I had. it's a 2006 but the nav was installed in 2008 - an 05 disk if i recall correctly. With the discount i paid 300 including the install time.

I think having the maps is the greatest benefit. i don't usually pay attention to hotel and gas station icons.
