Yaaa, that comes from a bad habit of scouring the bay and motorsport-oriented classifieds when work becomes boring. And unfortunately I have one bummer of a project going on right now... So the parts are rolling in.
The original build is still exactly where I wanted to be. But I have a growing stockpile of parts containing everything from 380mm brakes, to suspension bits, shifter, engine bits, etc, etc.
You guys forget that I am in Europe. The car will be registered in France. I have already contacted a specialized insurer for Porsche and high $ sports cars.
PIC-HEAVY POST! Ok - last body shop series. This was right before Christmas. I picked the car up and brought it home in the first week of Jan. Still a bit hectic then too, because my garage (my car barn) does not yet have a slab. So I laid a temporary particle board floor to get me through the winter and the major reassembly-phase.
62t RS in primer
I love that fat *** :-p
New flange for 997 fender

OZ Ultraleggeras. I like the look - and they are close to the GT2 wheels looks-wise, so they fit to the build. And very light (like the name says). And priced quite well.

all i know for certain is that the reward for all this effort/time/money will be a highly sought after car. even if not for the purists, i'd do it in a minute ( if i could )
Marzz - love your car! I have a stockpile of suspension parts similar to your pics. And I love the DSC setup. They have a standalone unit for the 996. I have been toying with that idea... Out of curiosity: why did you choose to go with erp LCAs vs. OEM GT3 or Cup LCAs, monoballs, and thrust links?

The DSC will transform your car, if I was going to do only one suspension mod it would be the DSC control unit,
my choice of LCAs was based on few things: not a big fan of shims (nothing wrong with them) but they come with their limitations, you also need few sets otherwise you need to predetermine your setup, all depends what you are trying to achieve, also you look at the value for money, by using GT3/Cup LCA to go solid you need few elements to be changed as well. The Tarett pro LCAs come with solid trust arms as package
Anyway I like trying new things, the camber plates and rear solid strut mounts were great so we decided to give the pro LCAs a chance, no shims and easy adjustable on the go if you wish, the quality is as good as you can get;
We did not build/follow GT2/3 suspension, she is not a GT and she is not trying to be one, my setup is probably the only one like that in AU on turbo, at least I'm not aware of another one, at any point we are able to change the setup completely into different one if needed, all elements are adjustable as they needed to be to fit my wide tires combo and handle at it's best on track but not only.
Setup like this my not be great for everyone, all depends on your driving style and how fast you want to take that corner, don't forget about properly fast tires and appropriate alignment, the devil is in detail ... as you know
Op Car looks great, I have just finished the 996tt to 996 gt2 looks and was a lot of work, cant imagine how much effort you put into this build, big like !
Didnt know there is a new DSC module available for 996tt, I would be interested into buying and trying one, anymore info?
Is this for PSM or PASM ? Dont get it, as 996tt doesnt have PASM
Hi Marzz,
Got it. I am not a huge fan of the shims either (especially given the P-tax on those buggers), but I have a lot of fender left to fill and was set on running Cup LCA inner bearings as these are over 1/2" wider than the standard GT2/3 items.
I will look into the erp LCAs again as well, tho. Seems a sensible way to go.
The DSC unit would be optimal for my goals: a perfect street/track day car. I am going to take a serious look at the system. I was already considering PASM to 996 retrofit before I discovered the DSC 996 standalone system using a CAN translator module for earlier to later protocols. We'll see.
Hi Fadi,
I've been watching your threads with great interest, too.
No, the 996s don't have PASM, but the DSC standalone system seems to allow a complete retrofit. http://www.dscsport.com/product/996-...ge-1/?reff=269
Not cheap. But, if it is good, it would really suit my needs...
So now that he body guys had more or less finished, it was time to bring the project home.
This was the first week of Jan and I was trying to find a window of time that would coincide with a weather window. Did not work out. The day I went to pick the car up, the weather was unseasonably warm with occasional showers. And, of course, as I was loading the car it was raining. The body guys spent some time the last days the car was there making sure that everything was was covered in wax and all cavities were sealed, but I was still not excited about taking to the road with the car completely open.
But when I pulled out on the street, this happened:
Not quite sure how to interpret this. Considering all the money I've been tossing at it, I could easily see it as being my little pot of gold I'll just take it as a sign that this project is a good thing
It actually stayed dry for the entire drive, though the brand new shiny paint was covered in dirty road spray from the tow vehicle by the time I got home. When I finally had the car in the car-barn, I decided to celebrate with a good brew. So I got a Bud.
The fenders got the worst of the road dirt during the drive. After a gentle clean with some soft towels, the car was covered. Now, when I come home from work and head to the car-barn, I see this. Never fails to cause insta-grin.
