Ordered Fister Exhaust today!

Just order the Fister Sport exhaust today and with any luck should have them here Friday and a good weekend project ready. Spoke to Darin, very very nice guy. Will have pictures here shortly.

I had vowed that I would place any aftermarket parts of the 997.1 Carrera but I guess these aren't really aftermarket as they are the original Porsche exhaust only that they are modified in the same way Porsche used to make PSE only with Darins touch. Will keep everyone updated.

Yes, looking forward to it. Seems like it will have a deeper tone to them. Getting the car prepped right now by removing the rear bumpers and cleaning everything as I so when they arrive on Friday they are ready to go in. Has anyone experienced that they are too loud?

i just installed my set from Darin last week and I love it! Makes my driving experience much better. You will not be disappointed. FYI, you do not need to remove your bumper...or tires. I have an 2006 997 S and all I did was remove the three bolts on each side holding the muffler bracket on and they dropped right down. Took me under 2 hours.

Great mod and you're sure to be pleased with it.

The only negative thing is that after the initial "Wow Phase" is over, it will leave you wanting for more. To remedy that take a look at replacing the the center muffler with cross pipes... and no, it's not too much.

On my 997.2 C2 I did the Gundo Hack (which is basically the Fister mod) and followed up with a set of Billy Boat cross pipes. In a word... Sweeeet!

I'll join in and agree with the great sound of the Fisters.....I did the ceramic versions and they really cut down the heat in the engine bay. Nice option to have and reasonably priced.

Also, bumper/tire removal is not require but makes the access to the bolts easier. But if you have already taken off the bumper it makes for a nice cleaning opportunity.

Enjoy!

Spark plugs?

The Fisters arrived today. I have taken the bumper off and cleaned it, removed plates and all areas of bumper with Griots Cleaner/Wax. I have also gone ahead and polished the bumper bracket with Sonax metal polish...yes I know....
The heat shield and heat shield bracket were also very dirty so those got cleaned. Used Bartenders friend to clean the heat shield and dressed the brackets. Images below. Question now is since I already removed the bumper and will remove the wheel, is this a good moment to do spark plugs?

Heat shields cleaned

If you feel ambitious.....yes, do the plugs! Check the coils for cracks as well.

997 Fister Exhaust Impressions

The easiest way to remove and install the Fister or any exhaust for that matter on the 997 is by removing the bumper and the wheel. Gives easy access to the exhaust bolts. Removing the bumper is so easy, you have to really love porsche engineering.

Impressions: Im not 100% sold on the Fister exhaust. First lets start with the good: At cold start up the car sounds amazing. A deep throaty sound. One warmed up the idle sound is amazing also, warm idles sounds deep and throaty. When you drive the car hard, the exhaust sounds amazing, each shift, each redline becomes more alive. While driving and the car is idle, you don't even know the exhaust is there. Same thing as long as you keep the rams under 3k.

Cons: Once driving when the car starts to past the 3k rpm you start to hear the exhaust, this sound that most on this forum have so much cheered upon, don't think is the best and reminds me a lot of the same exhaust tone on an Alfa 4C or Ford Focus RS. Its not the most refined sound. Porsche engineers worked so hard to create a balance between exhaust and engine noise. The good thing is that when you drive hard you can still hear the intake but when driving at low speeds it takes away from that magnificent Porsche engine tune.

Although the Fister uses the stock Porsche muffler so in theory it is the Porsche sound we are hearing and is the style of the earlier use systems just that not sure if that was the sound the engineers wanted us to hear....

Will have more updates.

If anyone is looking for the Billy Boat Exhaust cross pipes mentioned above, we have them and the center muffler with both quad round tips and OE tip options.

911nitis, thanks for the review - I wonder if adding a center muffler bypass might improve the sound at higher rpms?

BTW, there's a rumor going around that the Fister/Gundo mod might reduce slightly hp at lower rpm's because of the reduction in backpressure. Did you notice this?

Rumor??

As we say at work....In God we trust, everyone else bring data.

I have "noticed" nothing as far as a reduce in performance. I can't tell if performance increased or reduced by 1-5hp.

Maybe a before and after dyno comparison would show something...but without that I doubt he would notice this, if in fact there even is a reduction. Let him enjoy his new sound
