I got rear ended in a car accident leaving a car show yesterday by a 2005 Civic. The driver was going 70mph before he slammed on his brakes locking them up and skid over 180ft before crashing into my car waiting at a red light. The force was so great from the impact it pushed me into the car in front of me and the Civic's rear end flew up and smacked the car to the right of him.
Needless to say my 911 is in sad shape now after the accident. I'm at a loss on what I should do to try and recoup my damages here. Any advice is appreciated.
I'm having the car towed to a well-known Porsche specialist in the area that has an in-house body shop and mechanical garage. I've already contacted my insurance company. Luckily same insurance as the asshat that crashed into me.
Car has a little less than 40k miles and is a 6spd. I paid $45k last year for it. Just had new Michelin Pilot Super Sports put on with the 19" wheels and the GT2 Clutch Slave Upgrade and Hertz Audio sound system installed. How much are we talking diminished value now that I have an accident on the record?
I was going to say that it didn't look that bad... until I saw your side shot. That looks like a total write-off. There is going to be major frame damage that you can probably never recover from. I would take all your added goodies off and put them in another 996 TT.
It really does need to be looked at from underneath. While it's hard to imagine anything other than a crumpled chassis would allow a quarter panel to buckle like that, all of your shut lines (door, engine lid, etc) look straight from the pics.
Ouch, I too didn't think it was THAT bad until the side shot! Stevemfr is right about the shut lines though, they look straight. Doors open and close okay? How are you feeling? That's a pretty tough hit - btdt! Sprained back, whiplash, all sorts of possibilities I'm afraid. What did this punk have to say for himself? After my last car was totaled by a careless idiot I think I'd have to be restrained from seriously hurting the next moron!

Agree, that side is not good. Front and rear bumper: no sweat. Curious to hear what the insurance says. I would pressure them for a replacement car.
push for a total loss buy the car back from the ins and part it out. you will make more than you ever will selling it. once the partout is done take all the cash and buy another non wreck
So sorry to see that. But if you weren't hurt, the rest is relatively minor - check your neck & back for range of motion. It takes 2-3 days or more for soft tissue damage to show up. Ask me how I know. :-/
You have only good advice here. Even if it can be fixed to perfection, Carfax and Autocheck will haunt you if/when you decide to sell.
My advice is to not turn this over to your insurance even though you and the other at fault driver share the same insurance company.
You have more leverage letting the other driver and his insurance attempt to make you whole.
I would be surprised if the car is not a write off.
But if you turn this over to "your" insurance it can use the fine print in the insurance agreement to instead of writing off the car to attempt to foist off on you a sub-par repair.
Best I can offer is to seek out the best Porsche Approved Collision center in your area and put the car in its hands.
The shop will do a partial tear down and make a determination -- one of several I expect -- of the severity of the damage.
Given the wrinkles in the quarter panels ahead of the rear wheels that looks to be serious chassis/tub damage and the cost of putting the car right, and frankly it can never be that right again, is going to be quite high.
I think you would be better off getting the car written off and fighting for an adequate settlement.
Sometimes a car just reaches the point it is good for nothing but parts to help keep other cars on the road. This can happen to the best of cars -- happened to my 4 week old new 2008 Cayman S which went from well, brand new, to a total in just the blink of an eye -- and I think it has happened to your Turbo.
You just bought it and did upgrades vs. maintenance which helps the value.
Take it to a certified Porsche repair shop so that it gets totaled and see what insurance offers. Then stick to getting paid more, like exactly what you have paid for the car with tax, tabs, wheels, slave, stereo.
You may be happily surprised to find they get very close to that number. I've had good and bad experience with total loss scenario.
Then find out what salvage value is and determine if you can make some $ back for this hassle by parting it yourself.
Maintenance items don't add to total loss value the cost of maintenance items, found that out when sleepy turned left in front of me in my completely refreshed 540/6. Insurance low balled me but I bought it back for cheap too, fixed it for half what they gave me and have the same car back with $ in pocket.
Your car will cost a LOT to fix and there may be other odd items wrong with it after a repair.
assuming no frame damage... my barometer thinks its a new welded in qtr, 2 bumpers and structural bits behind, and a whole hell of a lot of adjacent panel blending being a silver car. damn near half the car will be re-cleared.
theres $12-15k in damage right there barring no mechanical /frame damages.
Fu**in civics. kids texting,etc.

Sorry to hear of your concerns. As many have mentioned, push for a write off...Best advice. As for myself, having a car repair along with frame damage is unacceptable. Also, it's not Honda Civic cars that caused the accident. It's the current state of "society " where they fail to provide 100% attention to the task of driving a vehicle. Best take away..your okay vs being in the hospital recovering.
