955 Oil leak...

I notise that there was oil spatter about half was down under the car. So today i stripped the covers under the engine to fint out where this come from. I notise there was oil on the pipe going to the intercooler on the drivers side. But on the lowest part so it seem like its dripping there? This is the pipe from the turbo to ic... But i also notise little oil even higher.

Also on the other side of what i assume is the ac pump there came down oil...

Is there any place in the front of the car where oil leaks are common? Culd this be from the top cover gasket? I havent taken out the plastic on top to check from there if i culd see something..

Intercooler pipe from turbo.

Still on driver side on the other side of the ac pump.... next pic is above this.

Is there any common place where these leak? 04 Turbo 139.000km

Little higher up from underneath. Ac pump on the right side just below pic...

What about your valve cover gaskets? Any signs of them leaking? They could be dripping down from above. My valve cover gaskets were leaking terriable after only 48k miles on the clock.

From your picture it appears the seal from the intercooler to the turbocharger is leaking. Porsche recommends you drain the oil from this pipe at every oil change since oil seems to pool here. Whenever I change the oil I also change the seal. I would also inspect your charge pipe seals as they are prone to leaking too. The charge pipe seals are the pipes that branch down from the Y pipe (throttle body) and go directly into the intercooler. This seal can be kind of a pain to change but is very do-able.

Thanks!!

I can see there is dirty at one side (same side as the leak) of the valvecover so im suspecting the same. Ill look more into this.

So the pipe from the turbo to the IC shuld be drained? Looks like quite a job so loosen? How do you disconnect them from the turbo? Tight space ☺.

Charge pipe seals? You say Y pipe on the intake... between intake and ic? Is there any place showing picture of this? Im not hundred % shure where these seals sit...

Check out my oil change video on youtube. I talk about draining the oil from this pipe at 7:50 mark.

When I get home I'll snap a picture of the charge pipe seal.

If you look at the throttle body it connects to a black plastic Y pipe that than connects to two charge pipes. One charge pipe branches to the driver side intercooler and the other to the passenger side intercooler. The seals that are prone to leaking are where the charge pipes connect to the intercoolers. I have found that the driver side is more prone to leaking than the passenger side. Hope this helps.

This seem to fit my issues well. Its on the drivers side i have oil leak down on the IC pipe. Im used to refering to the ''hot'' ore ''cold'' side of the IC, so your talking about the cold side... im used to just having a silicone hose going on there with a clamp but i assume there is a diffrent solution on the Cayenne.. ill watch your video 😀.

Apresiate the input and help!

Dan, i Just watched your video. Werry informative. Assume your car was fairly new? But still a fair amount of oil in there? I thought there shulden be oil there. It indicates worn turbo normaly ore am i wrong?
Anyway great video. Im going to watch the rest. Just checked the airfilter vid as well...

Now i know what to do tomorrow ☺

Normally oil in the intercooler pipe would indicate a worn turbocharger. However, this is very typical on a Cayenne as the crankcase ventilation system dumps the liquid oil back into the system just after the drivers side turbocharger.

When I filmed that video my Cayenne had a little over 50k miles on it (now 58k). It's very common for oil to pool here because of the way the crankcase is designed. Hope this helps.

Below is a link to a TSB that Porsche issued on the issue.

This most likely explanes my issue. So the oil mist goes only on this side of the engine, not passanger side? Did you change seals both sides ore just this side?

I will look for the seals and the valve cover gasket online. Any recomandation where to get parts. I live in norway so ill get shipping extra but hopefully its below our 300kr limit to prevent a 25% taxes ☺... i wish 😂

Correct! My seals were only leaking on the driver side but I went ahead and replaced the passenger side seals as well since I had it all apart.

I have good luck with Pelican Parts, ESC Tuning, and Rock Auto. I don't know who the Porsche part sponsors are on here. Maybe a moderator can chime in and recommend one?

When I was fiddling with my diverter valves I noticed there would be oil in there pretty quickly. Mine seems to be odd though, the oil level will be fine for 2-3 tanks of gas then all of a sudden it's down a quart. I haven't kept track of how I drove between those times though. Common sense would dictate that if I'm doing a bunch more aggressive driving it should probably go through a bit more oil. But who knows, I'm not going to be that **** about it. I just try to remember to check the oil every time I fill the car.

Oh and there is a solution, you just have to install a catch can instead of the oil dumping back into the system. Kent did it here and I'm seriously considering it.....https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...n-install.html

I have used Pelican Parts and ESC probably for most of my parts. Just got a couple boxes in from Pelican yesterday in fact. Also Suncoast Porsche and Autoatlanta are both good sources for factory parts. Autoatlanta has the actual factory parts diagrams you can search which is very helpful for finding part numbers too.

Well wouldn't you know it, I respond to this thread and now I'm seeing and smelling oil burning in about the same spot. One more thing to dig into I guess. It's not bad but a little whif of smoke when I stop the car and open the hood.
