Does anyone know to tint the rear tail lights without darkening the red part? I really like the way it looks on the left.

My guess is that the cars in the photos above have a smoked film applied over the entire tail light, so the red portion is a little bit darker too.

 

Suncoast sells the film for the 997.2 rear lights for $59 in 4 gray tints plus red.

 

I have tried those films and looked racy imho. I was hoping they were dark tail lights from factory

 

I can buy factory dark tails for my car for $475, which I won't buy. Didn't see the same option for the 997.2. When I had a 997.2 I just left them alone. There is an option tail light for your car but opposite of dark. I preferred the OEM.

Does anyone know how that is affected by a car wash? Since it is on the outside of the lights?

 

Just don't use a heavy brush on it, and you should be fine!

 

i tried the dark films before but it never looked right. I 'm currently looking at a shop to open the lights and "black" chrome the inner lining.

 

My vinyl guy has what he calls clear head light film, but it has the lightest bit of tint to it. I had him do both the headlights and taillights of my 928. I wanted the headlights just a touch darker to go with the smoked side markers, and the taillights to knock down some of the vibrant yellow and red color on the rear lenses.

Covering just that section of the tails in your photo with film that dark might make it very difficult to back up at night since you're covering the reverse light portion, especially if your windows are tinted as well. .

 

I have been toying with the idea of just tinting the clear area of my tail lights. Inner tint sounds great! Post some photos!
