997.1 Aftermarket Stereo option 2017update please

I know this has been discussed far too many times.

But all the other threads are only half answered.. So please bear with me.

I have the 997.1 with steering control (no bose. With factory navi).. The pcm just looks outdated.

I done my research and theres a video on youtube showing the steering wheel control can work with the new pioneer deck. I went to his website and the whole system with the deck is 2300 with the paser steering control module. Which is unbelievably expensive.

Amazon sell the double din kit with porsche logo for 100 dollars. Newest pioneer deck is 700-900. The steering module is 100euro.

If i get all these separately.. I can easily save over 1k.

I am no car guy but if you guys give me a detail instruction i think i can do it.

My question is.. What else do i need? Do i need to program the module?

Also.. The newer pioneer deck can read cars info via idatalink ... Is there a way to make it work on 997, at least the trip counter part on the factory pcm..

I went with the Kenwood DX9903S and absolutely love it. Had the sound dealer do everything. Got 6 new Focal Flax speakers, rear backup camera, and a new JL Audio XD400 amplifier. Car rocks out now and has bluetooth, Pandora, Google Maps, etc. Good luck with whatever you decide!

If you don't mind my asking, what did you pay for all that? I need to do similar to our '08 C4. We had the head unit replaced at a sound shop in Austin but it took them all day to even get It working but there is no rear sound now.

Hi. The bezel doesn't appear to sit flush at the bottom. Where it meets the temp controls.

Mine sits flush. Very good fit and finish. Totally happy with it.

I certainly did not! I paid good money for a high end audio shop to do it. I'm certainly not that guy.....Totally love it. With the top down doing 90 mph without the wind screen, I can crank it up and rock out. And I love having the rear view camera and getting directions from Google Maps.

Porschelady, if you still have the OEM unit you can fix the rear speakers. You have to set their volume at level 4 while the OEM unit is still connected. You will not be able to fade forward /rear but side to side will work and level 4 should give you the best sound quality between front/rear speakers.

Thanks, but I found that out too late. I had already changed and sold the OEM radio in ebay before I found out. Unfortunately, the stereo shop that did the install didn't know that either. I would like to get it completely redone with new speakers and amps but don't know where to take it here in central Texas. The place that screwed it up is supposed to be one of the top spots in Austin. I'd like to take it to a shop in California(can't remember name), but that will be quite and expensive trip.

Has anyone been able to get any of the trip computer data to work on an aftermarket deck? via the idatalink?

I am in the process of making a decision now too... I am thinking of going for the Alpine iLX-107 because it has wireless Apple CarPlay. Then changing out my bose amp for something nicer and improving my speakers at the same time. And adding a backup camera too.

Alpine iLX-107 (Its release date has been delayed)

I went from this JVC deck I installed 5 years ago ....

To this Chinese Android 6.0 Deck today and I am totally happy with it. I think it sounds better than the JVC I had. It is everything I wanted an Android deck to be. It plays movies, Youtube, music, radio, USB connection to front view DVR camera, RCA connection to rear view camera, and runs Google maps navigation when connected to the WiFi hotspot from my cellphone. I am very impressed. Best of all, it is one-third the price of my old JVC DVD navi deck.

O yeah, the Android deck is a little wider than my old JVC deck so the trim didn't fit. The installer had to take 1-2 mm out from each side and wrap the trim in Alcantara (should have ask him to use a lighter grey but that will be an easy fix when I got tired of it - I thought about RED to match my seatbelt and speedo but I don't want the trim to be staring back at me )

The model I got is the Joying JY-UL135N2 with 32GB flash and 2GB RAM (from ebay). I picked this brand because Joying has a forum for users to discuss and resolve issues and I find that very helpful, I actually read about the kind of issues and bugs I can expect from the forum before I order the unit. Joying seems to be updating firmware regular enough to fix things so I took the plunge.
