Retractable front plate now on my Vantage

Hi All,

I got some inspiration from Ryan (007V8Vantage) and decided to install the "Show 'n Go" retractable front license plate kit for my V12V. I ended up taking the lower front bumper off the car to make the job easier, but ended up being an all day project. The trickiest part of the entire project was re-installing those pesky air filter boxes when re-assembling everything. No room to spare for those suckers!

Here's a quick video of the results:

I'm pretty happy with how it came out...I have about 3/8" gap between the track/motor mechanism and the radiator. I would have like to set the track back another 1/4" but oh well.

I've got an AMR lightweight grille coming from Redpants--can't wait to get it. It'll match the mesh of the lower grille.

Looks nice! I've always considered getting one of these- getting front license plate tickets sucks.

Pretty straight forward installation outside of removing the front bumper? How much hard-mounting was required? What kept you from tucking it under another 1/4 inch?

Also, what color is your V12V?

The mounting was pretty easy...couple small holes drilled into the bottom side of the urethane bumper per the kit instructions. The reason I couldn't mount it back another 1/4" is because the motor/track unit would rub against the radiator; take a look at this pic:

The pic is a little deceiving but there is about a 1/4" gap between the end of the bracket and the front of the radiator; but I wanted to the gap to insure no possibility of rubbing. That was the tradeoff. ;-)

The color of my car is Quantum Silver.

Gotcha, I'm assuming you had to cut the lower mesh trim and added the rubber surround?

Nice job. Do you have some felt or something on the rear of the plate to prevent scratches? Sounds like it slaps the front on opening, or is that just the mechanism?

Very cool! I'm sure glad that Wisconsin and Illinois don't really bother you regarding the lack of a front plate.. But this is definitely the solution! Very trick.. Nice job!

Clever, A+ for that one! Front plates ruin the car's appearance. Happy I don't live in one of those states.

yep, the kit comes with a foam pad you stick on the back of the plate mount. It cushions and protects the bumper. Plus, I have a clear bra on my bumper so it's double protected.

picked up the kit on eBay: "Show 'n Go universal kit", $125 shipped.

Illinois State Police love to write front plate tickets. That would be great to drive them crazy. One minute it is not ther and by the time you are pulled over it is there. That rules.
