New Double Din worth it? Pioneer AVH-4201NEX7

I just picked up another 997S Launch w/Bose , now my 2nd launch & 3rd 2005 997S i've owned - i'm sick & tired of not being able to use my iphone or music, i had mobridge on the last one but it wasn't convenient enough.

I could do an AUX input for $700 or just do full new double din with apple play & phone mirroring bluetooth streaming for $2000

It just seems like so much money spent on a head unit..anyone have one of those? worth the money? It must be nice to have the new technology

This is the one I had installed on my cabriolet. I believe it was around $1800 out the door. That included a J/L Audio amp that replaced the stock amp.(my stock amp was fried) Like you I wanted my music while I was driving.

You could probably do it for half. I went by this thread, very helpful.

https://rennlist.com/forums/997-forum/1026488-bose-head-unit-replacement-in-a-997s-for-under-150-and-in-30-minutes-or-less.html

Make sure to connect the Most Hur to the ACC. That is key not to get any pops from the speakers when turning off the car.

This is how the Alpine unit looks in my car. I purchased an older Alpine unit that was brand new, Alpine rear view camera, MOST Hur off Ebay, and installed it at my local shop all for under a grand. The thread covers exactly what is needed to get this done at a modest price. The technological upgrade really added to the experience of my 2006 997S. I would highly recommend.

That looks pretty darn stock! i guess since i'm keeping this one a while its worth it in the end, specially that my PCM is flickering too

I too just bought a launch edition and installed a Pioneer AVH-4000NEX that I had from my previous car. I read some threads about using a cheaper fiber optic module. Bought one and it sounds great. A friend of mine has a 997 with the MOST adapter and it sounds the same with the factory Bose.

Got it installed, functions are great, however i'm not too happy with the sound , not sure if its a subconscious thing because i can't control & fade to rear as that function is not available, i did set my fader to 4 on PCM to rear before having them installl..i've only had it few hours so guess i need to play with it and listen some more before writing a final review

I installed a AVH-1330NEX in my 997. Here's the thing- FM reception is horrifically bad, if I did it right. I used an powered (?) antenna adapter that connects to positive and has 2 connectors for the diversity antenna coming from the car into a single motorola connector to plug into the radio.

Im also not really a fan of CarPlay at this point, it seems really buggy. Might be because I'm still using an iphone 6+. not really sure. might be affected by that "throttling with old battery" thing that's making it way around the net. I probably have to try replacing my battery with a fresh one to see if it becomes more responsive and/or less buggy. I also miss Waze. If you have android, you might be in good shape.

My 5 year old Kenwood in my truck has actually been a lot more handy.

If your new deck has built in power then you could run that to the rear speakers and then you'd be able to fade F/R. I set mine at neutral and i'm ok with using the stock Bose setup for now. I'm sure eventally I'll follow the other guys in here and replace with new speakers and amps for the front/rear.

ATM I'm not happy with the sealed box I made for a JL Audio 10". I have the sub firing up towards the rear glass. Might play around with a different box design over the holidays.

Theres a white wire in the factory molex that needs power (connect to your remote turn on blue wire). That gives power to the antenna module in the passengers side A pillar.
