Plastic Fob internal swap into a Sapphire key

Plastic Fob internal swap into a Sapphire key
So I don't know if anybody did this successfully as what I found is it can't be done easily (see last post)
I have been searching for an answer and so far I am not 100% sure, so is the internal of a working Plastic Fob can be transfer into a none working Sapphire key? I know that the little black chip in the back cover is what make the car start, but does it have places for all the parts to fit in?
Thanks 62Jeff for the picture

Thanks Patrija, I search all your post and found this from Irish07
Who can program all the features to a new key: The dealer is the only one that can program all features
Can I program the new key myself to just start the car: Yes but this will require 2 already programmed keys to the vehicle(there is a Ford procedure that isn't to hard). BUT If you only have 1 key programmed to the vehicle, dealer is the only place that can get you a second new key programmed to start the car.
Can I program the new key myself to operate the locks: NO, there is nothing you can to program the key to unlock/lock/open trunk, this is only done by the dealer
Can I swap the internals of my plastic key to the new glass key I bought: Yes, you can swap the circuit board and chip to the glass key and thus the glass key will operate(vehicle will think it's the plastic key that is already programmed), but you will now have a inop plastic key.
a little further down that thread..... From Irish07
Sry bud, just thought of something..the swapping of the internal is only for the Plastic keys..For the glass key, you cannot open the internal case to swap out the circuit board easily like on the pastic keys...You would have to either cut the plastic seam for it is glued, swap internals and then apply some kind of shim to the backing so the case is not loose in the surround...or buy a new SUB key which is the internal case with circuirt board from Aston part#

That's what I did. It was a about a year ago, so it's from memory.
On the glass key there are two very small screws, and I believe the metal slides off. And then yes, I believe that I had to cut it open to access the circuit board. Swap the plastic board into the glass key, glue and reassemble. Took about 15 mins. Dealer was surprised ;-)

That's good to know that you were able to do it, thank you for that. I will keep my eyes open to see if I can get one at a reasonable price as I have 3 plastic fob so one of them would go into the glass key.

Over the winter I was able to find a Crystal FOB in excellent condition (never used) but programmed to another car at a reasonable price. Today I proceeded to do the internal switch over from one of my Plastic FOB but first I wanted to see if Irish07 procedure to programme a 3rd FOB would work with a FOB already programmed to another car. The procedure goes as follow:
1- Start the car with the 1st FOB (Already programmed to my car)
2- Start the car again with the 2nd FOB (Already programed to my car)
3- Start the car yet again with the 3rd FOB (Newly purchased used Crystal FOB)
all this has to be done within 10 Seconds or so.
I am glad to report that the Crystal FOB is now programmed to my car :-)
Now onto swapping the Circuit Board from the plastic FOB to the Crystal FOB, it was pretty straight forward:
1- unscrew the 2 screws on the back of the Crystal FOB
2- slide the chrome piece down and push the plastic internal from the side, be careful to hold the key with the buttons down as they will fall out as they are only held there by pressure from the plastic internal
3- I removed the 6 screws for the battery but that wasn't needed
4- Here it gets a little tricky as they 2 pieces are glued together so you have to pry it apart without damaging anything (see picture for glued point)
5- take the plastic FOB internal circuit board and place it inside the Crystal FOB
6- I tested that the Crystal FOB was able to open/close doors and trunk and light
7- reassemble everything, you might want to put a dab of glue to hold the two pieces together.
So that finally answers a lot of questions that people had (including myself) about this swap. Remember I am not responsible if you damage your FOB by following these steps, good luck. See below a few pictures I took while I was doing the swap

I never moved it as I had two plastic keys and a used Crystal key and was able to get the used crystal key to be programed following the instruction.... Start the car with plastic key #1, stop the car... Start the car with plastic key #2, stop the car and finally start the car with crystal key and now the crystal key is mapped to your car. All that start/stop has to be done within 15-20 sec, it took me a couple try. Those PATS are glued and not sure as I didn't try to remove mine but maybe a little heat from heat gun might help....

No it will not only start the car.... that is why you need the new inner from a plastic key that can be programmed to your car. When you buy a new Key (Plastic or Crystal) it comes with code that nobody has a copy of it is only on the box that the key are in so if it is a used key with no code the only way to use that key is to switch the inner with a key that you have the code for. Hope this help

Thanks for the info.
Do I have 2 working one to program a 3rd one?
Or can I just use the same key twice for the first 2 starts, then insert the new/used glass key for the 3rd one to program.
