OP: I wonder about these reviews; look back to 2012 and the comments of the 911 drivers as the 991 was introduced. Many thought it way to big; thought the cars are quite near in dimensions:

the 991 is larger and as Americans get bigger this may be part of the discussion. A driver at 72" and 185 lbs. will not feel cramped in a 991 nor a 997. Change those parameters to 75" and 230 lbs. and another result may follow. You don't have to be an athlete to move in & out of a sports car, but large people will find it more difficult. I have a friend who can't handle the geometry of my 997.2 due to be his admitting he has become unfit; +230 lbs.

Several years back the discussion on 6speed was: the 991 will attract a 'different' buyer. I wonder if that has come to pass.
The most important issue is not comfort though, and both of these Pcars deliver the handling an acceleration.
So look at yourself, climb on a scale, run a few miles and then select the model and Run fast & Hard.

My last car was a 997 Turbo, i test drove a 991 GT3, and it was much softer/quieter/composed than my 997 Turbo. Both are lowered. I decided on a 991 Turbo though... But that should give you an idea

991 is more comfortable

I had a 997.2 and 991.1. 991 was designed to be more comfortable. Its got more luxury features like an automatic headlight etc.. Its larger inside and out. Inside that translates to wider more comfortable stock seats and a much much more spacious feeling cabin. Outside that translates to a wider front track and more forward placed engine - both features that make the car more stable. Tire noise on the 991 is lower (prob. more soundproofing) Last and most important for your query - if you choose a manual...the 997 has 6 gears and will spin over 4,000 rpms on the highway. The 991 box, while not quite as smooth has 7 speeds and thus highway cruising becomes much much more relaxed.

I have a 991.2 now which you could argue is even more relaxed than the 991.1 by virtue of more effortless torque from the turbos. I mention this to put my comments into context. I drive the 991.2 as a daily driver and I'm 6'6". If I were 5'10" and used my 911 as an additional car, I would not buy a modern 911. I'd have a 993 or 997. Everything that makes a 911 more comfortable makes it a little less special as an "occasion" car. That said I absolutely love my car. It's amazing how the engineers are able to preserve so much of the raw character that makes the 911 special while adding size and increasing safety, technology and comfort.

I'd hold out and get a 991. Also, if I'm not mistaken they sold a lot of them in relative terms so their values could soften a bit as the 992 comes online.

Good luck and happy motoring!
