I should have mentioned here as I brought it up in a few other threads. Like someone said the box is MB so Porsche is NOT going to crack it open. I think that is the big reason they like to replace it. Keep in mind this unit if pretty bulletproof overall as the SL65 AMG cars where making pretty big power on it.
SO If someone is using this thread later on in life and you have a tip. For Tranny issues you are better off going to a MB guy. Heck the trannies themselves are cheaper bought from an MB than a porsche, IE if you destroy it, and are searching for a new one, buy an MB one.

 

Follow up to this post. Found my receipt, and googling the part description result in this video. Hopefully this helps anyone who has this issue in the future.

Could be the seal in the tq converter shaft, a simple pressed in seal.

what happens if you just let it be? I've changed the gasket once and still see some weeping along the edge. car is in shop to investigate dreaded coolant leak and really don't want to deal with this right now if I can help it. was thinking no big deal as long as there is no dripping/puddle on the floor

 

This is a common problem beyond the connector leak or pan gasket. It looks like a pan leak, but isn’t.

It’s a common problem on the transfer case,and dealer said it’s not repairable. Totally not true... a guy in NY sells the gaskets for $80.

The o-rings go bad or the bolts let loose inside. My car with 28k miles developed this leak. The internal bolts were hand tight. Use a medium grade locktite, and retorque after your first time around. The plate will snug up as you move around. Also, invest in a finger ratchet for those tight spots.

#nzskater: Many thanks for the tip and guidance to the local experts. I had a very similar issue (997.1 turbo tiptronic, Porsche dealer had noted leak, said it was a repeat of a pan gasket leak). Auto Trans were on to it straight away, found gasket and connector leaks, replaced connector and made their own gasket. Also replaced the front driveline connector at very short notice after finding the old one perished. Big ups. Apparently Porsche simply does not support the MB 722.6 gearbox in their own cars! Happy to help if anyone in NZ needs guidance, and very grateful to nzskater for the earlier posts.
