As far as this thread goes... I never really understood the performance gains of exhaust crashing into itself trying to get out...I know it sounds cool....but just never really understood it...
I tend to believe what most here probably think, in that up to a certain power level, probably not that noticeable...

Nope...That's why my 600whp 996 turbo had all stock piping, stock IC's, stock airbox, stock paper air filter, etc...ran perfect and made plenty of power with almost all stock stuff...never had a bad MAF either...

Steve, when we made your exhaust we only cut a quarter sized window in the back of the 180 bends just so the two would "talk" and not all flow threw the same pipe. I was always against this cross flow type of exhaust but if someone wants a type of sound thats is what you need. I do have other ideas that Mark and I will try soon.

The client wanted a quiet 2.5" exhaust including all the piping from the cats and to the tips... also 2.5" ID of mufflers... not to mention with 100 cell cats.... thats probably good for upper 500s to the wheels...
With that said, AMS put on A28s and turned up the car to as you say 22 PSI... Had I known that I would never sell that exhaust to the client.... Not to mention the cat cores got dislodged from the inside probably due to HIGH heat caused by un burt fuel from tuning the car ....( verified with the cat manufacturer). Now , the car was just dynoed from my understanding... and this is what I got back- Yet I gave a full refund... you tell me if a handful of pulls will do that any exhaust? including yours ?
Had I known I would tell him he needs a full 3" catless... but the client didn't want it... wrong exhaust for the application was the case...
AS far as making power... the X we make does make 900 whp incl. our own 997.. no gimmicks no magic... sure a straight pipe will do better but thats not what we are saying nor comparing too... The AWE exhaust is all piping with one small muffler in middle.. The owner did not want a loud version which is why he opted for a quiet one with small ID piping and ID mufflers... I could have made a free flowing one no problem.
There are a few members making 700whp at 1.5 bar catless 3"... and this is our 997 with TIAL 30rs NOT 28s making power... 870 and look at the TQ

On my inner side muffler body cases,in that chamber part where the inlet piping empties into the outlet piping the stainless steel turns that color..
Yes from heat but I have seen that color on countless mufflers also,,as has been posted on other threads here also..
My stainless steel motorcycle race pipes they turn that color also..
I know and believe that I dont have a problem.
Any typical collector has a common merge point of high velocity hot gases which do discolor stainless steel or burn paint off..

if you look on any used exhaust system you can see color changes at where the "restrictions" are, its somewhat normal, i never saw purple on mine. in my case i was seeing darker gold shading at the X and I run E85 which produces lower EGTs then regular gas they were using on that 997tt.

This is a Picture from Milltek with there exhaust on a 996 turbo,as we know..
I can see different color shades on here in alot of areas..I believe this muffler system was not even on long..
