Standalone ECU Solutions

What is your favorite standalone and why? Who is your standalone ecu tuner and what solutions are they familiar with? Why did you pick them?

I'm currently maxed out on a stock motor, 93 octane and custom Cobb tune. I'm considering going to the next level but would like to stay on pump gas. How far can I go with 93, built motor and stand alone eco solution? What would standalone ecu with a very competent tuner get me beyond one of the proprietary tuner solutions (other than a lighter wallet)? Am I nuts for considering standalone ecu for a pump gas build?

I don't have any specific power goals but I would like to be able to safely go beyond 700whp/wtq if and when I want to.

Hello,
COBB with a pro tune can get you there.
Isn't COBB located in Austin? Always good with a tuner in your region.

Look at AMS Alpha 9 or a similar kit for inspiration on what to get.

My self, I run Syvecs (stand alone) in my .1 tip, but mainly due to interest in tuning it myself and to calm my curiosity.

Cobb is located in Austin but that doesn't help me much as they only work through their pro tuner network. There is one cobb pro tuner in Austin and that is where I started with my current build. Long story but I am looking for another solution.

Having the ability to adjust the tune myself would be a huge plus. That is one of my pet peeves with what I have now.

We've had great luck with Syvecs and would recommend their tuning and product whole heartedly. Contact Wayne Potts for local tuning and info for that system. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the feedback. Syvecs seems to be mentioned most often in posts. Does anyone have any experience with AEM Infinity?

The AEM is a good ECU for running the car. The main benefit from Syvecs is that in addition to being excellent engine management, it has the best integration between the standalone ECU and the other systems on the car. The dash, gauges, PSM, etc. all work similar to how they did stock. This is not a trivial matter on the 997 as all of those systems work via CAN vs some kind of analog signal so it's difficult to 'hack' together.

To make your choice even harder Proefi just released their "Gen2" 997 systems, they claim full CAN integration with this one .... Seems promising, they need to add a remote tunning option ....

Price wise ProEfi vs Syvecs its close depending on how deep you go (112 vs Syvecs S6+)

Choose a tuner and get what he's familiar with.

As for what you could do with pump gas, with a John Bray/Spec 3.8L you can do ~1000whp pretty easily with the right supporting mods.

Is anyone running a Motec M1 on a 997? CAN integration? Know there's a bunch of cars with ProEFI and Syvecs, Dzenno (ProTuning Freaks) is using an AEM), but (ironically) haven't heard anyone using Motec.

ill kinda disagree here as 1000 wheel on 93 pump isn't really "easily" attainable. really depends on turbos. a friend of mine has a john bray 3.8 kit and car makes 800whp on pump using 3076s with cams, that car wont won't make more on just 93. top notch parts are needed here and careful tuning. if it was easy everyone would be doing it

I heard Calvo will be doing a PnP kit for M1 and CAN integration. He's had great success with a Gen V Viper Motec and CTS-V as well.

3076 is basically 1000whp absolute maximum on good fuel. Need a happy dyno to find it too.

I'm not sure why mine liked pump gas so much. Intake manifold, headers, intercoolers/y-pipe are really what's unique about my setup there. Many people have the same/similar heads. The turbos are very good too, but it did ~950 without really trying. That's not really revving it up either.

Although its not on the Turbo, I love my 128 and have had it remote tuned as well with great results. Its an awesome system and now that they developed the 997 full integration, i would definitely consider it for my future build
