This 2001 Midnight blue Porsche 996 turbo 6 speed, currently has a little over 73,000 miles and has been under my ownership since 2020. Originally built and modified by Todd Knighton of Protomotive, Inc(I have old receipts totaling 30k worth of work). By 2025's standards some of the modifications may seem dated, but IMO they add a type of nostalgia, a throwback to what the early 00's offered to consumers who wanted something the next step up from a stock car.
Pertinent modifications:
K24/18G Turbos w/ upgraded billet turbines by Blouch
Protomotive Inlet Pipe
80 lb Bosch Injectors
Protomotive 4" Intercoolers
Protomotive Fenderwell 4´´ Intakes directly off the turbos
Protomotive tune
GReddy Profec B
Short Shifter
2nd gear pop-out issue corrected with GT2 parts
Brembo Big Red front brakes with 6 piston calipers and removable hats
SpeedTech 70mm exhaust
Wheels/Tires/Suspension:
Champion Motorsports RG5 Forged Monolite Wheels 19x9 and 19x12 and MichelinPS2 Tires
JIC Cross Suspension
Rear adjustable Toe Link
Interior:
Porsche 997 power seats
Black Powder coated Autopower roll bar
Aluminum/Carbon Fiber Shift ****
Carbon Fiber steering wheel
Carbon Fiber accents
Fixed Rear Wing
Rear Wiper Delete
Since purchasing the car, I've done the following:
Michelin Pilot Sport 4 Front tires
New Wheel Studs
Wheels refinished
Cabin Air Filter
New Alternator and Battery
997 Ignition Coils and Spark Plugs
Complete new brakes all around w/ sensors
Replaced all 4 oxygen sensors
Axle Seal - Rear Passenger
Fuel Filter
GT3/4.0 clutch kit w/new LW flywheel
So now that the technical parts list is out the way, the more important question is, hows the car actually feel and drive? Well, it drives as an analog car should. I've had the pleasure of piloting all kinds of cars and this one is exceptional in the handling department. When people say a car drives on rails, this car really exemplifies that phrase — it feels planted, precise, and completely connected to the road. The twin vented BOV's make themselves apparent with every shift...and that shifter, the throws are short and mechanical, you could just row gears all day and not get tired and the exhaust although very mellow, has a nice note to it.
As it currently sits, it's pumping 1.2bar or 17.4psi into the legendary mezger, which with 93 octane puts this thing just over 500whp. Although not the quickest spooling turbos by today's standards, when the 18g's do hit full tilt, just shy of 4k rpms in 2nd, the thrust is unmistakable. Most newer turbo cars spool so fast they feel like large displacement engines. This one has the old school feeling of a bit of turbo lag followed by a surge of power.
Being an amost 25 year old car now however, the car does have a few defects:
-Carbon Steering wheel and shift **** have some cosmetic defects in the clear
-Airbag light is on due to upgraded 997 seats/buckles
-When going at speed the car throws a warning for the fixed spoiler malfunction
Not interested in trades.
