I know that I had suggested this feature about a year ago, but the size that was chosen is incredibly small. Here is the feedback from the photo section:
Bob,
What gives? This new feature completely sucks!
Go back to the old system and limit the posting size to 1200px wide by 800px tall at a max of 150ppi.
All our work just got minimized...whats the point?
I can't believe this got approved!!!

I agree with D on this. There's no longer any point for me to post pictures anymore.
This site has actually motivated me to start shooting for pleasure. Some of the images and quality of them that have been posted here truly inspired me to get off my a$$. Not only that, the quality and size of the images keeps me coming back. I really don't have the time to sit around and click on thumbnails to see larger versions. I use to click on the top navigation images as well (just below the 6speed homepage banner) to view those images, but about a year ago you changed the format/structure. Now I don't even bother. Not to mention the god awful navigation that follows, once doing so.
The write-ups in conjunction with the inline images make this site standout and is one of my favorite places to go. If this trend continues, I'm afraid I'll just lose interest and stop visiting.

I have to say that I agree with D on this matter. I was really surprised to hear that IB has decided to implement this new "change" and quite honestly I think it's more detrimental than beneficial for those affected. Yes, this could be seen as a way to boost the speed of this site by reducing the sizes of the images loaded but in the end I think it actually affects the overall aesthetics. People are naturally visual and many would prefer to be able to see a clear image over anything else. By reducing that to a size that's barely tolerable by many makes it intolerable for me. If this continues then I'll be less motivated to come back and view the work of others let alone share my own work with folks on here. I strongly urge the powers that be to reconsider this change and go back to the old standard.
I don't think we need to go back to the old standard...we can still have some automatic resizing in effect if it isn't necessary to make it a thumbnail and just limit it to around 1200x800 so it is full screen for most people...I think we should have had an opportunity to survey the membership before a step like this was taken...I for one enjoyed the great photography threads with images full screen
Long term I would imagine this will have an affect on the vendors here as well. Imagery sells, quality images really sell. In fact high quality images of inferior products will draw higher positive consumer response over poor quality images of products that are far superior.
In todays fast paced world we have very little time to communicate a message. A picture can literally communicate a thousand words, without even displaying a single character, yet can leave a lasting impression forever and tell hundreds, if not thousands of stories.

Oh wow. Daren is completely right here. I just posted some pics and the resizing is just awful.

You can have photos enlarge, compress, or stay at the default size. This allows members to adjust embedded photo images so very large photos do not stretch the browser annoyingly.
