New Porsche Owner - SD
New Porsche Owner - SD
Hi Everyone,
Quick intro... I just bought an 03 996TT. I started racing a modifying Supras in 98. I also worked with RX7s and NSXs. However, in 2005 I left AZ for law school in SD, and my car days went on hold.
Now I'm back with the new Porsche. I bought this car at auction, and I know it's modified, but since I'm not familiar with the car I don't know what's done! I know that it has an exhaust (can't tell brand), short shifter, Bilstein coilovers, and raised boost. The clutch/throw out bearing makes a lot of noise, so I'm suspecting it's aftermarket. The car drives like it has an ok tuned stand alone ECU (mild injector shake, overshoots when falling on a free rev) so I'm assuming it's a reflash.
In any event, I hope to meet up with all of you in the future.. can maybe someone can tell me what I bought.

Yesterday I found a **** under the dash. At first I thought it was a boost controller, but I debunked that theory with one pull.
Not sure what it is now.
Congrats! Maybe you should drive up to OC and have GMG take a look...
Or, you can wait until the Big SoCal Euro Gathering on 6/27/09 at Qualcomm, and have us at it to figure it out!

Congrats
It's cool you are so excited about your modded car even though you not sure what's been done. The enthusiasm - that's what it's all about. Some good advice above so drop by for their input asap. There may be some minor tweaking that comes with the modifications including maintenance so it would be good to find out. I'll bet you are going to be more excited about your ride after you find out more. Very cool risk taking!
Don't mean to highjack your threat, but may I...
I just drove down from Canada for 5-6 months and have been hearing a lot about the Qualcomm event at the end of June. Is it a friendly event? Or is competitive stuff about whose car or mods are bigger and better? I'd like to drop by if it's a relaxed "car crazy" event. Check for the Atlas Gray -HRE -Alberta license plate and say hi (or hi, hey?). Hope to see your car there if I can make it.
Great city here with lots of friendly folks and track events (signed up for a few already through PCA and BMW clubs and Speed Ventures - a huge learning curve for this Canuk!).

First, beautiful car!
As mentioned, I'm no stranger to the racing world. I've built turbo street cars to over 1000 bhp and helped engineered one race car from the ground up. It is fun to buy a car like this at auction and discover what's going on.
I haven't been to the Qualcomm Euro show. I'd imagine it's like every show -- some with big heads, others with big smiles. I'll be there.
I'm also about to join PCA and get into some of their events. Let me know which ones you'll be making it to!

Anyone else going to make it to Carlsbad earlier in the morning (before SoCal Euro)? I think we have the guys from last time (me, Alan, David and Raphael) and a couple of others. If I remember right, we get together at about 7:30, so if you can make it, you'll at least have some (or more) familiar faces when you get to Qualcomm later on...
