My buddy used a product called VHT Nite Shades back when he got his Infiniti with great results. It actually looks exactly like my other friend's BMW 335 "blackline" taillights. Had the OEM look to it.

car tint
Tint is still 'curing' a bunch of bubbles still there.
Sorry for crappy iphone photo. will post before and after tomorrow
Tint courtesy of Tint Plus in OC.
It's a tint similar to car window tint. It's applied to the surface. Took about 40 minutes. The other but more permanent solution is a spray tint. Color mixed into clear. More costly.
Tint film about $150
Painted. $200-300
Dark in the shade. medium in the light and normal at night with lights on.

I've done a whole bunch of them. I use VHT niteshades.
This is what I do for the process though.
1. remove them from the car
2. dry sand with 2000 grit sandpaper
3. rub them down with an isopropyl alcohol to get all the dust and contaminates off
4. spray VHT niteshades (however many coats)
5. let cure for 3 hours and wet sand them be smooth
6. wipe them down with isopropyl alcohol to get all the dust and contaminates off
7. spray clear coat (more the sinier)
8. let cure and wet sand with 2000grit wet sand paper
9. Polish with rotary or PC buffer and 3 stages of polish!
This process takes about 10-12 hours... But mine turn out great all the time and last just as long as a car paint..
