Question 996tt. Can you remove pads without removing the caliper?

Newbie question I know, but I appreciate any advice. In anticipation of a DE the day after tomorrow, I thought I would do a dry run replacing brake pads since the car is new to me.

I found a couple of videos that made it look insanely easy except that they were for the cayman S (oops).

I removed the pin, the spring and the sensors. Spread the pads to push the pistons back and then... I still couldn't get the pads out. Do I need to remove the calipers to get the pads out?

I started following this writeup: http://www.heumann.com/bigred/index.html is it accurate?

Thanks!

Hey S4, Was just reading through some old threads and saw your question re removing 996TT brake pads. Hopefully you've got your answer already, but if not, yes, you can remove the brake pads w/o removing the calipers. Super easy, just have to use a putty knife to release the anti-vibration backings if they're stuck together.

Agreed. I would bet the anti-vibration pads are stuck to the pad.
