Lowering a TT

I want to change to 19's but I need to know how much a pain in the neck it is to lower it. How much does it cost and how much should I lower it?

Take a look at the Bilstein PSS9 coilover setup (good street application). I would not use springs.

Typically costs somewhere between $2,000 to $3,000...at least when I put them on. It makes a big difference.

There are several choices in Coilovers... Just depends what your application is.. Mostly street, track etc...

You could use springs, several companies make these too, but not the best choice IMHO

You could take OEM route, ROW springs and shocks, will lower about an inch and be stiffer or X73 which are non-adjustable coilovers.

OEM is more expensive in most cases..

If you put on 19's you may have to roll your fendors depending how low you go and offset of your rear wheels.

I went with techart springs only. Got a good deal on them. Spent about $1k on everything. The ride is as good if not better then stock (with the stock wheels). Im happy. Its all personal preference

I bought my TT with HK springs already installed and 19's. I have no issues with the ride at ALL, but then I have never driven in a stock TT or one with coilovers.......but I like everything about the way mine rides and handles.........

i had h&r springs on my 99cab. the ride was comfortable and it lowered the car approx 1.5 inches. i only spent about $400 for parts and labor. it was perfect.

I have H&R springs and with the OEM wheels on, I get a floaty feeling on high speed corners like long swooping on and off ramps to the freeway. I dont feel secure at all going fast, so I went with 19s, much better now. But Im going with KWV3 coilovers, been on a car with PSS9s, to soft for my liking, but other people like how theirs are, I just like a more stiffer and secure feeling ride through these on and off ramps, I take the 133 to the 405 north at 100+mph here in so cal.

Stay awy from springs only. I tried that and switched it out to coilovers in less than 1K miles. That said, I have some H&R springs for sale...

If you are mechanically inclined that it is not too difficult, takes about 5 hours for first timers

Go coilovers which gives you adjustment options vs springs only especially if you are concerned with how low to go.

Drop it around 1" with 19" wheels in IMO

Contact Arling@Lucent for a good deal (310) 231-3328

Not certain if there is a 996 DIY but if you are doing a 993 generation car go to

http://p-car.com/

Go to DIY section, under "Modifications" see "How to Change the Springs and Change the Suspension"

Also for 993 see

http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...d.php?t=258810

Rennlist has a text DIY for PSS9s on the 996, it is here
