DE events and vehicle Warranty

I recently bought a 997 GT3. I have tracked it twice, and loved it. So I went out and bought the 996 GT3 seats and roll bar. I am getting ready to install them and I notices that the vehicle warranty states that it will not cover Damage the occurs during any racing or "track event including Porsche sanctioned events" How do you guys handle the issue. are we voiding our Warranty by doing DE's. I mean give me a break you sell a race car and then say don't drive it. Also, if i install the seats and bar, am i giving myself away meaning if I develop a problem it will be hard to sell them that i do not rack the car. Whats the advise??

I've taken my 996 into Boardwalk in Dallas with harness bar seats etc and they havent blinked at pefroming warranty work.

However, Progressive just sent an update to their policy that states they wont cover anything on a track, period. However there is no reason you shouldnt be covered for non-track driving as long as its legal.

I am in the process of feeling out my two local dealers to see how they respond to a hypothetical question of "what if" on warranty work. I will post when i know. it seams that this is going to be a dealer by dealer thing some will some won't work with you.

On the insurance thing this is also worrisome. I was poking around rennlist and on the insurance question it appears that there may be a few off shore companies that may write track insurance. I think as time goes on more and more insurance companies are going to exclude this coverage. I checked my policy and right now it appears to cover non timed non competitive events. I was looking at track coverage because if i have an incident, i don't want to jeopardize the other 4 polices i have on that policy. I was actually thinking about working on a program that we try to get someone to underwrite a policy that maybe we could get some group rates put together through the PCA. As much as I am pumped up about this stuff I don't want to lose my shirt doing it.

I think the key point in the wording of the warranty is "that occurs during any racing....". If you are not at an "event" and damage occurs then your warranty should still be in effect.

As to your auto ins covering non-timed events, you'd better read the wording VERY carefully. I don't know of a regular auto ins company that presently covers events on a racing surface.

My track insurance it through Thompson Health and Bond Ltd. of London and it covers HPDE's only.

Thanks for the post relating to insurance. can you give me agent or contact information regarding your track insurance program. I am trying to find out more about it and see if we can not put some type of a group plan together for the PCA. I am in Columbus, Ohio the insurance mecca of the mid west. I am going to explore if we can put a program together. It may be pin in the sky, but I see this as a big issue for members and the club in general.

DE track insurance can get expensive but what price can you put on peace of mind to replace or repair a $60-120K car when someone drops oil/coolant in front of you? There are a number of options for NON competitive track driving. ALso troll some other forums and you will find many DE insurance stories. Try prosure.net

Track wreck covered

I have a friend who put his GT into the wall at race track and it was covered because it was not a timed event, just a track day $130,000 in damages. I told him I didn't believe him, but he said it was covered and paid for.

I don't think prosure exists any longer. I know WSIB is writing DE insurance, but I think they are linked with FKA insurance....not sure if that is true, or how it works though....from memory.

Keep in mind its a "Driver Education" event and most dealers will recognize that.
Insurance is the only thing I would be worried about. Check with your provider.

My insurance is w/ West Bend & I am covered for non-competitive events on a race track. DE's are approved. My dealership actually sponsors DE events at a country club w/ a racetrack. Chicago area. The Porsche Exchange encouraged me to attend the day I picked up my new 997S. First one this year is in April. They seem to be mod friendly too, but not w/ non-OEM short shifters.

Is Auto-X considered a DE or timed-event?
