I saw you spin from the Streets course...heard it and looked up. They warned us that at least one person spun on Saturday (I ran Big Willow with SV on Sunday), and said it was because someone lifted....apparently that might not be the case as you were the driver and weren't sure what happened....that would be my guess without seeing the video (still loading).

Anyway, that was one hell of a spin! I am glad you and car made it out safely.

The car rotated pretty quickly...

Can you remember if you were downshifting? -Improper rev-matching could cause the rears to lock quickly (acting like an E-brake) and thus spinning you around.

It's a little difficult to diagnose because you were so far away from the camera car, but you can see the car instantly made skid marks before the car was sideways. Judging from that i'd say it had to have been caused from a downshift.

If you cracked out of the throttle aggressively (thus transferring weight/grip to the front of the car) then breaking the rear tires loose by aggressively booting the throttle, that combination could also lead to a spin especially at those speeds. But by doing this, the car wouldn't have snapped into a spin that quickly, it would have been a lazy slide initally at those speeds then snap around on you.

Since the initial change of direction was so fast, I would have to say an improper downshift is most likely the cause.

Good to see a GT3 out on the track though!

I've driven a few 911s, but not a GT3. I'll have to get behind the wheel of one to see how the car is set up.

Their are a few bumps at the apex of 8, maybe a combination of your throttle input was at the right (or wrong) moment at right time to upset the car to be able to rotate that quickly.

I don't see how they can move the engine much further forward as they are limited by the diff placement and half-shaft angles. Most mid-rear engine cars will rotate off-throttle much better than front-engined cars. But they're nothing to be afraid of, but rather embraced. They just require a little more understanding of vehicle dynamics behind the wheel.

Hopefully I'll see you at the track one of these days...

Billy

I've been doing it for a while. Seat time is great only if you know what you're working for (towards).

Good instruction is key and goes a lot further than a lot of advice from random people.

Doing about 130 mph, lost it just before the apex. Did two full 360 rotations.

What do you guys believe I did wrong?
akinla,

Unless you hit oil or debris, my guess is you turned into the apex late and "hard" while the car was unweighting at one of the several dips that describe turn 8. The turn is pretty bumpy on that line. Therefore, take a mid-track turn-in and straighten the car for your brake zone tap before full throttle track out at 9. Gear changes at 8??? Never.
