Signed up for 3 more events with the 997...
NASA Roebling
DE Sebring
DE Sebring

So I'm tracking the 997 now, but decided on a 2005 STi. Most reliable bang for the buck and close to what I'm looking for.

Any decent buys on 19" R888's anywhere?

Get a 2.5 liter Boxster, slap on some pss9 coilovers and some DOT R tires and you will have a great car for under $20k.

You may not like the look of the e36 M3, but will it matter if you are inside it lapping people?

Weight is a little high, but a lot of that could be attributed to the interior. If you were to gut that and maybe get some carbon fiber body panels with an aftermarket suspension you would be in business. The aftermarket on these cars is great and the engine is still very reliable. You could pick one up on Ebay with some choice upgrades for less than 20K....

Get rid of some of the stupid "looks fast" stuff on this car, and get a PPI and it could be a good investment for track days. Plus you could sell of some of the spares on ebay to recoup some cash...

PSS9, Brembo BBK, fully uprated suspension, and lots of solid names for the construction of the turbo on the freshly rebuilt motor. Plus the seller has a pretty solid reputation.

Ahhh my eyes hurt.... Those Breyton wheels are so heavy for the track. It has a ton of good stuff for the track I agree. Decent tasteful tuning for the engine.

I ran an 06 STI last year, had roughly $15k total in mods and it was too easy to DESTROY vehicles that cost multiples of what I spent...on stock tires. Andthen I drove it home, changed pads and used it for daily-driver and family hauler.
My last day with it on track...

Last day because I am retiring it to street-only duty and replaced it's track duties with a Lotus Elise...very different vehicle and another perfect track-day weapon.

Should you be serious about the STI, I cannot recommend more highly the owner of RaceCompEngineering... Myles Williams. He helped me with every aspect of my STI and has a wealth of experience setting them up for track work.

Before you do ANYTHING to the car, call him and have a discussion on your goals. It will be time well spent.

Best of luck,
TomK

It comes with the stock wheels and you could use those until you sell off the other wheels, ICE, and interior parts. Then you should be able to get whatever you want(Bucket seat, roll bar, harness, new wheels etc...)

Thanks...
Suspension:
Whiteline Swaybars and endlinks (29mmfront-26mmrear)
Whiteline Anti-Lift Kit (removes factory anti-lift geometry)
Whiteline Ball Joint Relocators (called Roll-Center/Bump-steer kit)
RacecompEngineering Tarmac II Coilovers - made by KW but custom valved/sprung to Myles' specs- linear springs of 600front/500rear rates.
RacecompEngineering Front Lowering camber plates
STI GroupN rear strut mounts

Car was set-up for neutral attitude with stock tires... little toe-out up front, little toe-in in rear.

Fast Lap at Limerock logged on PBox...over 1Lateral-g with stock tires!!!

Car made me feel like Superman and was very easy to drive. By comparison, my new Lotus Elise is difficult to drive as fast as the Subaru.

I also had custom tuned ECU by XXTuning in CT, with water/methanol injection... 4 gallons of fluid in my trunk...was never going to run out!!!

Car had following dyno results, conservative roadcourse tune with meth vs 'off-the-shelf' Cobb Accessport Stage II flash...
Results were at the hubs... look at 3250rpm - +130awtq!!!!!

Car easily had sub-minute potential with r-comps at Limerock...

Any questions on setting up the STI, let me know...

Be good,
TomK

Unbelievable Solid #'s... I always was a fan of water injection, Had it on all of my previous VW's and my old STI which had the same Whiteline sway's as you, but I didn't have coil's I had the STI Pink's. Had a Walboro Fuel Pump, Perrin Pulley's, MAF pipe, Perrin Top Mount, custom tune, K&N Drop Filter, Borla XR1 exhaust, Borla Headers, Cobb DP, many little body tweaks. Appeared stock but was killer. Very NIce Setup!!

Sounds like a fun car and you should be good with the prior experience with the STI. One thing though, the Whiteline ball joints and ALK are great additions to the car, even if kept stock as the camber curve is much improved...requires less static camber.

Good luck with the STI and let me know if you have any questions on set-up.

Be good,
TomK
