438ci FD RX-7/2400lbs/Gforce dog box track toy!
438ci FD RX-7/2400lbs/Gforce dog box track toy!
A friend of mine built the car to a very high level and won SCCA ITE (unlimited) West Coast with it in 2010 running a 383ci setup and about 100hp/100ft/lbs tq less. Partially due to its reliability.... and also the fact that he can drive! The car has been sandblasted inside/out and chassis entirely powder coated as well. Now it sports a 438ci resleeved LS7 with titanium rods/12:1 compression, stock LS3 heads with lightweight valves, LS9 injectors/LS3 intake, ARE dry sump, GForce 4spd dog box (Nascar), Quartermaster 7.25" triple disc clutch, and '03 Cobra IRS diff/T2R LSD running Samberg Fabrication mounting equipment. Dry it only tips the scales at 2400lbs. Has a custom 1 piece front clip with 18x12's all around. JRZ triple coilovers, Brembro fronts/Wilwood rear brakes, delrin everywhere and hollow modular adj front sway bar with surprisingly enuf a stock rear bar. Makes 530rwhp and if memory serves me right about 510rwtq with a baby cam in it. Running a set of ported LS7 heads/intake and bigger cam and the upgrades listed below it should make another 70rwhp+.
I recently bought it and it is one of my dream cars as I'm very into LS powered RX-7's. I finally had a track day with it end of September running with the local Lotus club at Thunderhill (NorCal track). I hadn't driven a car on the track in about 5 years; however my confidence/skills returned after a few sessions thank God
. It has *****.... but I need to really learn to push it harder in the corners.
Here is a decent video that isn't super exciting.... but gives you an idea of what the car is all about. My buddy is there with his '95 M3 running a 440ci LS motor and T56 street car with full a/c, interior, e46 fender lips welded on sporting Hoosier 285/30/18's all around. We had a blast running with the Lotus crew. They allowed you to run (2) 20 minute sessions per hour which is in my book the best deal in town. There is the potential to run 12+ sessions in a day. That is 4hrs of track time! It was 95* that day and my coolant temps hovered around 210* and oil in the 230* range.
It scales at 2470lbs with 7 gallons of fuel and is 47.3% weight up front and 52.7% out back. Gobbles up the asphalt with ease.

I have a bit of work/upgrades to do on the car until the next outing and hope to convert it to e85 with retune, install some long tube headers (mid lengths on it now), redo the exhaust to drop 20-30lbs, install some custom tubular front A-arms, fix a ground up flywheel ring gear from an improperly shimmed Tilton starter, and fix a leaky rear diff and repack the leaky CV joints on the axles.

Cheers!
