Best all around trackable Porsche?
Steamboat, thank you. Lots to consider with a TT car.
I am very mechanically inclined, so maintenance and upgrades wont be an issue.
A few more questions, prior to a search, so forgive me-
Are there any oil starvation issues with either 997 GT3 or TT?
What would you track junkies do as a first round of updrages such as Steel brakes if the car is equipped with ceramics, stainless lines, ?
Thanks
Louis

Louis,
I'm sure I'll get crucified by many purist on this forum, but I'll give you my two cents. I have a 2007 997.1 Turbo Tip and have done some pretty basic mods ( APR tune and TPC stage 3+ suspension being the major ones...also, run padgid RS29 pads, girodisc rotors, Hoosier R6's, and some safety improvement ) and I will take my car over just about anything. I am not an experienced "racer" as I have only been tracking my car for 4-5 years but I can keep up with just about any car at the tracks I go to. I live in the midwest so the events I go to ( PCA, 10/10ths, etc. ) have lots of vettes, vipers acr's, GT3's etc. and many are dedicated track cars and my streetable Porsche will run with all of them. I don't claim to be a great driver...I just think my car is very capable in my medicore hands! I drive the heck out of my car and have had zero mechanical issues. I do make sure all the preventative maintenance items are meticulously done but the car is absolutely reliable. I think the turbo with proper suspension is a great track car ( at least for the guy who want to do 1-15 track events per year and doesn't want a full cage etc. ) and you can still take your wife out to dinner in it ( and you can get a car like this for under $80K!!) As a point of reference, here are some of my times on a few tracks: VIR full course 2:05.4, Putnam Park 1:15.3, Autobahn Full Course 2:41.9. Good luck with what ever you choose.

Hi Lou:
Bought a few items from you (or your father)for my Z06. I would go with a GT3, GT3RS or a GT2. Either car is track ready with a change of tires but many upgrades can be applied to increase it's prowess. Suspension, Guard LSD, and coilovers along with additional safety equipment would tame the "widow maker" GT2 while the GT3/GT3RS is ready to go. I am in the market myself and looking for a GT3 or GT3RS or maybe even a C5 Z06 (already have a GT2 but use it for DD, 1/4 mile, and 1 mile runs as it will soon be 1200 WHP+ - currently 900 WHP).
I think you would really enjoy either one and given you can do all the work yourself you would save a bit of $$$.
Either way - Good Luck and Happy Holidays.

That isnt the case with the new ZR1, as the ceramics stop just as good as steel, lack any fade with proper cooling, longevity is 4x that of iron, and weight is 1/2 that of iron. They are far superior to steel pieces, which is opposite from what Ive read ( in the past) on PCCBs.

Perhaps, for another project....
Louis,
I have about 14,500 miles on my car. It had 3500 when I bought it and had not been tracked at all. For the first couple of years I drove it quite a bit on the street but never in the winter. Now I really only drive it on track ( I trailer it so no miles to/from ). I think I have about 70-75 track days. I am not the guy who runs full sessions...I like to go out, run hard, take my time on cool down and beat everyone in. My guess is somewhere around 4K to 6K track miles? Food for thought would be to buy an Interseries Cayman. I have run with a couple of them at Putnam ( they are usually in the 1:17 to 1:19 lap times ) so not as fast as the Turbo, Vettes or Vipers ( of course lot's less HP! ) but they are supposed to be a blast to drive and fairly inexpensive to operate. Are you looking for a dedicated track car to race in sanctioned events or just a weekend track car?
Thx.
Mick

Not to hijack thread but I'm torn as well...
I'm debating a 07+ gt3, turbo, caymanR/Boxster spyder...
All would be manuals.. GTR was auto/Dual clutch... Was nice but next car I get with that will be a aventador
haha
Been debating for awhile but sidetracked by football (go saints!)
Anyhow... How much "worse" is a turbo than a gt3 on track.. One nice thing about the GTR and evo were the back seats... Not nessassary but awd is nice too... Is the turbo easier to drive on track ? Maybe not as automated as the GTR but not as tailhappy as the gt3? And is a cayman r/spyder just as fast with stickier tires?
Sorry for all the questions.. Read several threads on every site but looking for more opinions
