Tow vehicle: LX470 vs. GX470

I was wondering if anyone here towed with a GX470 or LX470. I am looking at a 99-01 LX470 and the '03 GX470. The weight of the race car is approximately 3K lbs. and not sure about trailer weight, probably about 1500 lbs. Are these vehicles sufficient in tow capacity?

GX says max towing is 6500 lbs.

LX says max towing is 6500 lbs. as well. However, LX seems more suited to towing with a bigger wheelbase.

It would be towing my M3 race car. If you have feedback, I would appreciate it.

Regards,

James

p.s. -- just noted that the cayenne S has a 7700 lb capacity. Anyone here actually tow with the cayenne S? What type of hitch and trailer, and how much weight did you pull. Thinking of trailering it from VA to Mid-Ohio, VIR and Mosport.

both of these cars have little hp and not that much torque either. engines are the worst of its class.

lexus needs to put the LS460 into these suv for sure. gx is actually a longer 4runner on a taller body.

for towing, i would get a H1, avalanche or some thing that is build for hauling and pulling.

the landcruiser / lx470 should be fine trailering an open trailer. i have a friend that trailers a 996tt on an alum open trailer. no problems.

ths gx470 is a glorified 4runner. i'd pass.

the cayenne. do a search. someone on this forum tows an enclosed trailer with one.

Though I have never towed with my Landcruiser I am sure it would be just fine. The power may not be there like some of the competition but the brakes/cooling/transmission will be just fine. I have yet to ride/drive in a smoother more solid feeling SUV.

I use my wife's GX470 every week to tow a closed trailer with 3 motocross bikes, gear and much more.

I know the weight isnt the same as another car but I'm pretty sure you will be fine.

Hope this helps
